Has anyone tried/tested Vortex scopes?

Two of the largest dealers in my area are now stocking Vortex scopes, both in hunting and Long Range/Targets models. The scopes appear to be well made, are bright & clear, and the AO and Elevation/windage adjustments, and magnification ring seemed to track consistantly and accurately.

I am considering a hunting model for my big game rifle, and before I spend the bucks, I would appreciate any comments or thoughts.

Thanks

Bill

I used one for a while when I was working up a load for a friend, it seemed to work just fine.. It did every thing it was supposed to do....

I have the lower end Crossfire model. Got about 20 rounds through my 25 caliber rifle and the lens inside started to rattle. Took it off the rifle to examine and saw the internal lens spinning on its axis. Must have been a bad day at the factory. Sent it back to Vortex and it was fixed within 2 weeks. Good customer service, jury is still out on the product (or the QC of the product).

I`ve had a 6.5-20x44 viper on my 6br for about a year and for the $$$ its been a good scope. Its took long bumpy roads and all the trials of pd shoot`in real well. It`s alway`s held zero and tracks good. The glass is OK but not great. It is a dependable scope. Ive heard nothing but good about the vipers and thats why I got one. Too bad the PST`s got delayed so bad, sounds like they found one bad one and sent back the whole lot...

I have three Vipers and they are very nice and never given me any problems. They return to zero after plenty of turret spinning and the glass is very good especially given the price. I am anxiously awaiting the PST release as well.

The Crossfires did have a lot of issues with the reticle spinning early on, but these are inexpensive scopes. I have never had much luck with any sub $200 scopes in todays market. Vortex warranty and CS are the class of the industry. These folks care and it shows.

Bill,
i shoot a viper 6.5-20x50 with 1/8 dot as well. i have it on an Elesio RTS in .260. Gary himself had suggested it. he shoots one as well. Our plan before was the Weaver T36. Gary told me about www.cameralandny.com give i a looksee. the price could not be beat. It was on sale for $375 got it delivered for $410 with sunshade!!! they threw in a sticker, hat, and a pound of coffee! i used Leupold Quick release rings it is not a nightforce, march, or US Optics. but it was much chaper by at least $1k. i dont shoot glass all the time, but for prone matches, this will do th money i saved will go further in other directions.
cheers,
Doc

Don't know where you are in KY, but drive about 1 hour east of Lexington and you can test my buddies Vortex out for yourself if you want to.

Guys-

I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my question, your straightforward and honest comments have made feel more confident in selecting one of Vortex's scopes.

Not having heard of anyone mentioning Vortex beforehand, or seen any advertising for them, my fear was that I would later dread having made the decision to purchase one.

Thank you

Bill
