Has anyone tried a 25BR?

I'm interested in the 25BR. If I did my math correctly, it should compete very well with the 6PPC and shoot possibly faster and flatter. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with that cartridge? If so, who's dies did you use? Are there BR quality bullets in 25 cal?

Thanks,
Kory

Kory,go over to benchrest.com and ask,as several BR shooters gave it a go,Jackie Schmidt for sure tried it. Not much selection on 25 cal. benchrest bullets.

This once ever-popular bore diameter has now fallen from grace in a big way. For reasons of my own I asked Mr. W Berger to consider producing a LIGHTER 65/70g bullet in .25 to which he had no hesitation in stating "the quarter bore is the least popular" in his line up of fine bullets. I believe him!

For what its worth I Have a 25 wildcat that is not far from being a necked-up Tubbs 6XC and it does everything I expect of it although the rig was not built for BR. If you like being different I say go for it.:thumb:

Perhaps the emergence of the 25WSSM might rekindle its popularity but I'm not banking on it, especially as the only review I've seen told me little other than the factory loading needed a better constructed bullet for varmints.

Good luck whichever way you go.

Less pressure in the 25 using equal bullet weight?

Can't argue about lack of bullet choice though, especially since Stark's Red Prairie Varmint bullets went into hiding!.

Not sure Fowler has enough stock to warrant exporting to the UK but Bergers, as you say, shoot real good for me too:thumb: I would still like to see a lighter than 70g custom-grade .25 varmint bullet though.

I'm in the works of trying a .25 wildcat... just a bit more capacity than a 6mm XC and figure on using 110 grain flat based bullets. I'm figuring on 3100 fps any idea on barrel twist to make this work... I want the least amount of twist needed to stabilize. The .30 Br works well and the bullets are just barely stable in 17 twist.

Just got an email from Darrell Jones who has been campaigning a 25BR on the 600yd circuit with considerable success. We may do a story on it, and I'll ask him to post his match loads. I don't know what bullets he's using yet.
