Has Anyone Built a 22Nosler Bolt Gun Yet?

Bully

It's on my list. I have the brass and bullets.

If you have, what mag are you running with it? Any mods to the mag?

What twist and bullets?

Velocities?

I was tempted when it first came out and there were cheap barrels available from Midway.
But I controlled my impulse and have been watching for feedback on the caliber and barrel.
I can't find a problem in the theory...
My mistake...I did not process the "bolt" part of the post.

I am getting ready to put a scope on my second 22 Nolser AR.
Both were 1/8 twist and my first barrel was 18 inches new one is 20 in.
73/75/77gr bullets are what I have tried so far.
Speed from the 18 inch barrel has run from 2980 to 3060fps.
I used a PRI 6.8 mag with no issues.

I picked up a 22 Nosler upper from Midway when they got to $399. It is no tack driver but works fine for what I wanted it for which was feral hog hunting. I am able to get the 65gr Sierra GameKings to 3000 fps in the 18"barrel that it came with but I am over max load to do this. The Nosler brass is undersize by about .012 to .014 on the headspace so you need to fireform with a light load first or you will have pressure signs early. I have some of the brass on the 5th firing with the hot loads and primer pockets are just fine.

I don't think it is worth a bolt gun as there are better choices. I wanted to use an AR that had a little more power than a .223 without going to a larger caliber.

Now if I neck it a .20cal..............

I've been pondering this for awhile as well. I've got a spare 223 bolt action that I could use and I tried feeding some 6.8 SPC rounds through an Accurate Mag 5 shot metal 223 magazine. With a little work it should work fine.

My hesitations are two fold. One, it seems like there's been some complaints on the brass quality versus bolt thrust. And two, I'd rather have it in a 6mm or 25 caliber. But who knows how long it will take for a wildcat to come around.

I completely understand wanting it in a 6. I considered it as well very briefly. However I love the thought of loading relatively inexpensive 22's and sending them to 300 yards all day. That's my thought on it. And what it will be used for.

For a bolt gun, why reinvent the wheel? Go 22-250 with an 8twist and have better performace, brass quality etc. For a gasser, ok, but seems a little underwhelming for a bolt gun

It isn't so much as "re-inventing" the wheel, as much as it is just something different. For the most part, it may not appeal to most fore the already available chambers. It would be a "niche" round. But it would be fun to do none the less!

You and me both.. nor do i want to buy another bolt either

I'm with you on both points. I'm not looking to re-invent anything. I'm looking to simply have some fun. Additionally I am taking delivery on my lathe on Monday and this rifle will be my first undertaking when it comes to building a rifle. It's gonna take me a bit to get it all up and running and for me to be relatively confident in my skill set, so don't expect to see anything anytime soon. We'll get there though!

Good for you! I just bought a mill.

I have a mini. I don't know how to use it. However I am starting school at a local CC in September so I'm hoping to get some of it figured out.
Yeah.. if you have a cool instructor.. you will be able to get your mini trued up at the class on the surface grinder..

Sounds like a fun little project.
