Harris Benchrest Bipod - Swivel or Not

Target is 5 clay birds on a backer board with one in the center and then 4 corners around the center bird. I'll be using the bipod on a concrete bench only, will the swivel version provide any advantage on a flat bench?

Depends if the bench of perfectly flat. If not then yes. If it is perfectly flat then no.

How far is the shot?

Get the swivel. Why would you not get the swivel? Is it the price increase that has you spun out? Have you not used both? Is there nobody else around that can let you play with theirs?

If you get one and decide you want the other one, then you will be like everyone else that has multiple everything. Come on in, the water is fine.

As has been said, if the bench is level, no. I'll add, and if the bipod is mounted so your rifle is leveled, no. However, the only thing you loose by having the swivel and pivot is the initial cost of a few bucks. With it you can make a quick adjustment to precisely get your rifle level and the issue of rifle cant is solved. Not all benches are equal. And, someday you just might set that bipod on a non-level surface!

James, do you use a scope level?
I have 1 Harris that is non swivel and the rest are notched legs and swivel with pod locks. I just think there's an advantage to have it and not need it then to not have it and need it. I highly suggest getting the Harris swivel bipod.

I would recommend the S-BRM. 6"-9" adjustable, Swivel (tilts) to compensate for uneven terrain, and Notched legs. And I would get an S-loc lever or the one listed above.

I believe some people here are getting the Swivel and Pan feature confused. the pan lets you move the rifle from left to right on without the legs needing to move, the swivel or what should be called cant, allows you to level the rifle in case the ground is uneven and the legs are not adjusted properly, it speeds things up and is a must when using the notched legs witch I also recommend. It makes it easier to deploy the bipod and holds a lot better with the heavier weight rifles being used today.

For your purposes I would not go with the pan feature, I have used them in all types of scenarios and really don't like them, I find it more stable without and just move the bipod a tad if needed.
