Harrell's turret press up to the task?

I'm new to handloading,

Looking to get a press, I was thinking about the 4 hole turret press by Harrels. This will be my only press, and I'll use it to handload .223 and .308.

I'll be FL sizing both these cases with a Redding type S die.
The .308 will be fired in a bolt action 700 and the .223 will be in an AR15.

Since the press is not made of iron I'm concerned it won't be able to hande the .308 and might loosen up after a while.

Is this the case? Or do I just worry too much?

I'll be handloading about 1,000 of each per year, I wish it was more though!

Thanks for your time!

If you are getting one press, make sure it can do everything you will ever need in the future.

I would NOT get a light alloy press as my only press.

Look at the Redding turret press - it's a monster, and you will ALWAYS be able to get parts, and more turrets).

.

Cool, thanks.

I was leaning toward picking up a FB Co-Ax before I read about the Harrells. I've read great reviews when I did a search here about it...

Which would be the best large frame press for handloading precision ammo?

Or, does it not really matter?
Should I focus more on an arbor press for the important parts?

Thanks for your time!

Also, if this is the same catshooter from SC, I can't thank you enough for all I've learned from your posts over the years!

I don't think it matters too much. Some guys like the Forster/Bonanza - some guys like the Rockchucker.

I have a C-H Champion and love it, but they all do good, cuz it's the dies, not the press, that are responsible for the ammo.

Yup... same one.

You're welcome :) :)

Hi,

Been using the Harrell's turret to load 308, 223 and 6BR for about a year now. No complaints here, the press is strong/stiff enough for the task and produces high quality ammunition, concentricity wise) when using quality dies.

I'm not convinced it is,much) better than a decent singlestage or that Redding T7 but what I appreciate is the reasonably compact size and portability. It was designed for range use and uses a built in clamp so you can mount it almost anywhere.

Cheers,
BolloX
