Harrells BR Premium PM- Does this work for anyone?

Oh, now I understand. You modify someone else's product and then trash it's performance. Hee Hee Hee. Good one!

You are kidding me right? First off I clearly stated I ran it manually operated first, its performance was not acceptable to me as it was worse than the $60 Hornady I already have. Secondly if you even think for a second that the device I constructed hurt its performance in any way I got some ocean front property up here in MN I'll sell you as you're clearly out of your mind.
I gave this thing as level of a playing field as I could. Do you think I would have wasted 20+ hours of machine time and a $400 motor if all I wanted was to "trash" someone’s product? I’m sorry my friend but there would have been much cheaper and easier ways of accomplishing that objective, even hinting at is ludicrous. I wanted the best powder measure I could buy. I thought I had bought it, it didn't match up with the hype and that is where I’m at.

Ragged,

I'm afraid short of the fabled Prometheus http://www.6mmbr.com/prometheus.html which costs a small fortune, and I'm not sure is even being made anymore, when it comes to measures it's a crap shoot. You mention your Hornady, I hear a lot of guys who swear by the inexpensive Lee also.
Me, I'm still looking for one that will throw Varget, Prometheus aside, ..............haven't found it yet either, and am begining to think it's like looking for the Holy grail.

Boyd,

Did removing the baffle help with the stick powders? (Varget)?

Check out a back issue of Precision Shooting. Maybe five years ago, Jeff Chosid ran a series of tests on high end powder measures vs some of the less expensive models.

He was very quantative in his approach and the results were interesting. Technique seemed to be one of the biggest variables in consistent results. Stick vs ball is also an issue. I don't believe that he found any measure that would consistently meter a stick powder like IMR 4895, RL15 or Varget to .1 gr.

The short range benchresters can live with charges that are thrown by volume vs wt.

Do a search and see what Jeff's results were.

It's pretty darn hard for any powder measure to toss volume charges and get them to weigh to the urban legend .1 gr. standard.

I have one that's pretty good, but it's been breathed on pretty heavily to get there. ;) -Al

I must say your automation is a fine piece of work, and will remove the human element from the process. I would like to have mine up graded like that, but a 400.00 motor is a little out of budget. Got anything in the $19.95 catagory??? Larry in western Ky.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS CONTRAPTION????? I HAVE 2 PREMIUM]
CULVERS AND JUST CANT UNDERSTAND POWERING A HARRELLS
MEASURE....IS IT REALLY THAT HARD TO PULL THE LEVER? PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THE COBBLED ABORITION.......

OK......First of all, you admitted you understood the importance of operating technique, bumping, or not bumping, the handle will yield different results.
But you proceed to modify the product.....a modification that, albeit imparts a consistent dispensing motion, does not allow for perhaps the motion that yields the most accuracy.

Therefore, I submit that you have indeed affected the performance of this fine product.....ADVERSELY at that.

If the world's best short-range competitors can get 25 record shots in 5 separate ragged holes with " accuracy challenged" stock Harrell's PM's, then I doubt 2 tenths variation will affect your accuracy goals .

Furthermore, Harrell's does NOT claim their PM is the best. If you do a search, the Bruno, Jones, Dodd, and original Lyman/ Culver seem to be comparable.

Yes, I DO use a Premium BR Harrells for BR comp and DO believe it to be as accurate as any on the market.........it takes TIME to acquire a FEEL to get to 2 tenths. Powders used are H4198, VV133, H322 and I do reject those throws that don't FEEL right. Your device negates the FEEL element.........so the why not just go the dispenser route....it would have been much cheaper.......and probably more accurate.
