Harrell Tuner

I am not a big fan of weights either. I have a set but have only used the small one out of the set with the finish cap on it. It was on a Harrells tuner and for some reason that barrel would not tune worth a crap before I got to halfway out on the adjustment. I am also not a big fan of the tuner being turned out very far. So, adding weight lets you get closer to 200 or below setting. IMO, having more than half of the adjustment 'out' is not optimal. I prefer more thread engagement between the fixed and moveable part. I have quit running Harrells and now have PQP/Stiller tuners on all but one barrel. It wears a Pro-X sold by Shooting for Perfection in KY. The Pro-X does have the optional Pro-X brass weight that makes it the same weight as a Harrells, as that tuner is lighter than a Harrells. Other than that, all my tuners are naked.

There are guys that run tuner weights, bloop tubes, and even mid-barrel tuners, all on the same barrel. Others that run a combination of some of the above, and others who only run just the tuner. I have seen all combinations on big time winning rifles. Not just sanctioned club matches, but BIG state, area, or national tournaments where the cream of the crop live. VLNBYR is one of them.

The bottom line is what John and Mike stated in the first 2 posts. That target when you are twisting on the tuner or adding 'gazettes' tells the story. There is no correct answer to your question. You have to figure it out at the bench during the tuning process. I try to keep it simple with less/no 'gazettes'. Others heap the 'gazettes' on. Somethings in RFBR can't be definitely answered with a question, especially with things that have their own personality, like a barrel on your rifle, in your stock and rest setup.
