Harrell Measures

Thinking of buying a Harrell measure for speeding up my process a bit ,I will primarily be loading 20 Vartarg and 17 Hornet and I’m torn between their pistol measure and their custom 90 . I’m thinking I should probably buy the custom 90 but was wondering if the pistol measure would throw these smaller charges more accurately?
Anyone have any experience with these ?

I wouldn't get the custom 90 unless you're loading large calibers. The pistol is best for small calibers if you want something to load small and medium loads go for the New Br Premium Powder Measure. Just my opinion.

Ive got two of them and maybe I dont know how to throw a charge but I still have to weigh ever charge if Im close to max. 133 throws the best Ive tried. Extruded I better be weighing. I d get a chargemaster. Been wanting one for a long time just aint jumped yet. Doug

I have a Lyman version of one , too slow for my liking .

I would, and do, go with the Schuetzen (pistol ?) measure. You are probably going to use ball powders in those small cases, which are very fine, and my small measure seems to be fitted tighter to better handle those powders. FWIW, I use that measure for everything 221FB and smaller.

I ordered one last night , now I just need to learn how to throw charges consistently .

I haven't timed it, but I think the Harrell's is AT LEAST 5 times faster than my chargemaster. And since the chargemaster overthrows too many charges anyway, I've really started leaning on my Harrell's for IMR powders recently.

Well the chargemaster might be a dream for me. My harrells dont throw n-150 good enough you dont have to weigh ever charge. Maybe Im too particular but I like to be within a couple of tenths.N-133 goes thru it accurately and they are fast if you dont have to weigh. Doug

Another plus for the Harrell’s pistol powder measure. It’s very precise with fine powders. Though with Unique I load about a tenth+ under and trickle. I also purchased the Custom 90 measure for .30 rifle, but still weigh every rifle charge. (I bought the Harrell’s turret press, for pistol, and use it in conjunction with a RCBS RC.)

Save the money for the charge master, sell one of your Harrell's and get an autotrickler instead.

Just out of curiosity, what powders?

the answer rests in ,how much powder are you throwing,,anything under 15 grains the schutzen/pistol measure is needed for consistency ,,,on the other Harrels/Lyman 55/ Culver types of measures the charge cavity is so near closed that the kernels/flakes/etc. can't fall into the cavity without a log jam,,,,Roger
