Harrel or sinclair Compact press?

Well I think have isolated my runout proble. It looks to be my Hornardy press.

My brass has zero runout when it comes out of the chamber, but when FL sized its got 1-3 tho runout.

If I run the FL die down and size just the neck and dont bump the shoulder back I'm getting zero runout, so its only the final down stroke of the press thats introducing the runout.

Its a Hornardy press and the lever arm is offest on one side. When you pull it right down so its camming over it tends to twist and cant the ram and that what I think is introducing the runout.

So I'm now looking at options to buy a "better" press.

Any comments on the Harrel and Sinclair compact presses? Any others I should look at?

I'm loading for 204, 6br, 7mm08.

Don't know if I would agree that your problem is the press. I would try using your dies in another,friend's) press 1st. If you decide to buy one of the presses you asked about, the Sinclair is hands down the best of those two. The only one that might be better is the RFD by Bob Dodd, but he's not making them anymore unfortunately. Bruno's has a knock-off of the RFD, but I don't know anything about the quality of it.

I was at this point about a month ago,if you make a search you will find my post): I end up with a Harrel Compact Mag size, bought at Russ Haydon Shooters Supply.

The mag size is the only that allows to seating bullets on a .308win case. I don't think the Sinclair allows seating...

I liked very much the Harrel, but it is a shame that Harrel website does not have an email for contact.

On the next days I will load and compare the runnout with my Rock chuker and Redding T7...

NZvarminter I doubt very seriously that your press is causing run-out it is most likely your die. there is enough play in the shell holder to let that part straighten out. what brand of dies are you useing? I'd bet a dollar to a nickle that is where your problem is. also do all the calibers you reload haveing the same problem? I was haveing trouble with a new hornady bushing die in 6br and finaly figured out i was useing too small of a bushing. a bigger bushing solved my problem. hope this helps.______treeman

Treeman all thre calibers are using Redding S type dies with bushing for 1-2 tho neck tension.

LRCampos, I was wondering about the Harrel and 308 verses the mag size. Is there any disadvantage in going for the mag size? I assume it cant be any less rigid! but may be a little larger?

They are basically the same, but on a .308 size you cant seat a bullet as the "C" of the press body is smaller. So, the bigger size and weight is the only diference I can tell.

In theory, the smaller press is more rigid than the Mag size, but I did not any test yet to determine the runnout on Harrel compared with my other presses. On the next days I will load some and compare.

Why are you "camming over," and what might your aversion to cast iron be?
