Happy Sharps Rifle day...

four years ago, Smokin' Joe was just settling into the White House.

My older brother and I each ordered a Shiloh Rifle Company Model of 1877 in 38-55. Sadly, my Brother passed away a week before Christmas in 2023. Heart attack. He, like me was a Vietnam Vet. I had Shiloh add his deposit to mine. A week ago they called and said the rifle was done, and needed an FFL. This (Monday) I picked the rifle up, and it is just gorgeous! His memory will live on every time I see this rifle.

Salute, Sgt Ed K. I hear the ranges in Heaven all have zero conditions.

Sorry for your loss. How wonderful to know that your Brother has reached his eternal Heavenly home !

You will see him, again !

Please keep us posted on your progress with the rifle.

I will shoot this rifle too often to use Black Powder. Messy in smaller bores.

I will, however, shoot the Holy Black in his Shiloh 50-90, the legendary "Big Fifty" of the Buffalo Herd days on a regular basis. My favorite memory of Ed and the 50-90 was one year at Quigley. I got squaded, at his request, between he and his buddy dubbed Ed II also with a 50-90 the first relay. He friend Ed II fires, BOOM!! 90gr of 2ffg GOEX propelled a 700gr lead bullet about 1500fps. I felt the Earth rotate counterclockwise for a second. My turn, and I send a 335gr 38 caliber round down range from my 38-90. Hit! Then Brother Ed launches his duplicate of the 90gr/700gr load. BOOM!! It is like I am stuck between two artillery pieces discharging. Fortunately it is only for six rounds each. As we walk down the line to the next steel target I request to be moved to the other end. The other five unfortunates on our squad each get to experience for one target; but we at least make them shoot next to each other. He was a quiet man, who went to work every week at a Power Plant (as a Journeyman machinist) for 43 years. Retired and lived ten more years.
He was my brother, but more importantly; he was my good friend.
