Happy Birthday Marines !

My father and three of his brothers all served during WWll, my uncle Richard had two purple hearts from injuries sustained on Iwo Jima, sadly they are all gone but they were men of honor, who always tried to do the right thing. Semper Fi, Dad, Dick, Don, and George, and all Marines past present and future. Thank You.

Ooh-Rah. We just had our birthday dinner here tonight with the whole ceremony. Its a lot different doing the ball here in country than back home.

Semper Fidelis brothers.

Drum major for the presidents band?

Isn't there anyone in the corps that was a grunt....like me ? There were twin brothers I went to school with back then that played basketball . They joined up. Guess what they did in the corps? Played basketball. Worse part of it is, they came out after 3 years with 3 up and 1 down. As in Staff sgt.
As a ground pounder, if you make Cpl. by the end of your tour, consider yourself lucky. What do you suppose I told that major when he asked me if I wanted to re-up ?

Joe, all those band and special services guys got rank fast. I remember seeing guys in the Navy Band that were Senior CPO's , when they were barely 30 years old.

Thanks Doc;

Maybe now you know why I'm no so gung ho. By the way, FWIW...I got my second stripe on Crete greece because of a fire mission I was in charge of, with my 81mm 3 gun squad. We were trying to impress the brass with a night fire mission. I laid out the co-ordinates and using WP, just happened to put one from each tube in the same place. Next morning bright and early, my Lieutenant assembled the company outside and gave me my "meritorious "second stripe. Whoopie !!!

OK GUYS--

this Drum Major, is 24 years in the service, that place in Va that starts with a Q, top bsic class 2 years in rifle Platoon, then band, and 12 years working his way to the level only held by 34 other marines., 3 tours in Italy, Germany and bck to Italy, Calif, assistanta Band leader then the new "John Phillip Sousa" of the USMC.

no fast track, just a lot of hard work and unusual skill

What in the world is 6531 ? And...how does one go about getting an MOS like that? They kept me at 0333 from basic to mustering out.

I have never missed an opportunity to thank any service man or woman that I meet, regardless of the circumstances, and this is as good a place as any. "To all of you that have served in times of war or peace, I thank you from my very soul. Had it not been for sacrifices you made and for what you did, I wouldn't be free to do the things I do.”
Thank you,
Lloyd Smith

Every year in Philadelphia Pa at Tunn Tavern the local Marines have a little Party to celebrate their Birthday, some have fun repelling down the side of the building.
So happy Birthday MARINES
