Isn't there anyone in the corps that was a grunt....like me ? There were twin brothers I went to school with back then that played basketball . They joined up. Guess what they did in the corps? Played basketball. Worse part of it is, they came out after 3 years with 3 up and 1 down. As in Staff sgt.
As a ground pounder, if you make Cpl. by the end of your tour, consider yourself lucky. What do you suppose I told that major when he asked me if I wanted to re-up ?

Thanks Doc;
Maybe now you know why I'm no so gung ho. By the way, FWIW...I got my second stripe on Crete greece because of a fire mission I was in charge of, with my 81mm 3 gun squad. We were trying to impress the brass with a night fire mission. I laid out the co-ordinates and using WP, just happened to put one from each tube in the same place. Next morning bright and early, my Lieutenant assembled the company outside and gave me my "meritorious "second stripe. Whoopie !!!
