Seems I've always had a soft spot for the H&R Handi rifles. But...never really had one that shot very good even after trying some of the tricks. For some reason, unknown to me, I bought one last week-end. Its the heavy barrel "Ultra" with the brown laminate stock in 25-06. After an hour trying to mount a scope that was either hitting the hammer or so high I couldn't get any sort of cheek weld, I finally got a scope mounted. I loaded up some 90 grain BlitzKings with IMR 4895 and a Win LRP. Expectations were not real high on accuracy but headed to the range. Seven loads starting low going to 4/10s over max of 46 grains (book max). First group was about 1 1/4 inchs at 100. Meh, minute of deer and about what I was expecting. So, I kept shooting and the hotter the load, the better the groups. Now its got my interest up. When I got to 45.5, it almost took my breath away. A nice small 1/2" three shot group. Might even be a little smaller as I didn't even bother to measure as I am still in shock. The last three at 46 grains opened up a little but still 5/8-3/4" groups. I'm amazed to say the least. I hate to fix it shooting the way it is but the trigger........oh my, the trigger. LOL! But all in all, the little Handi may turn out to be pretty handy.
