I just returned from a very successful handgun Antelope hunt south of Gillette Wyoming.
We hunted on the 55,000 acre Durham Buffalo ranch in Wright Wyoming, a 25 hour drive out of Western New York...
The weather was as good as could be, very light winds for a change, and warm and sunny all day...
A friend up the road from me came along to help out and shot a very nice Antelope at a bit over 200 yards with a custom built 16 inch 25-284 XP-100 shooting 100 grain Nosler Ballistic tips..
After getting his dressed out and in the truck we were headed to the skinning shed and saw 4 nice Bucks and a single doe about 300 yards out on a side hill just laying there enjoying the day. They all stood up and I got the Swarovski HD on the window mount and dialed them in, and told Mike that I was going to kill the one in the middle...
I put the big Leica Geovids on the one I wanted and got a 311 yard reading. I tried to settle the pistol on him but it was not feeling good off of the window mount that I usually use, I just didn't feel good about the way it was working out, so I bailed out of the truck and put the bipod on my rear grip 16 inch 25-284 XP-100 and slipped the sandbag under the rear of the rear grip stock and sent a 115 grain Berger VLD on the way when he started to move off. I heard it hit even with my ears on, and watched through the 5.5x22x50 NSX as he started to run with his nose about 6 inches off the ground, and after about 10 foot of scrambling he put his nose into the ground and flipped over on his back........
Pretty nice goats for a first time Antelope hunt with a handgun...
Mikes went 14.2 on horn length and scored 74.2...
Mine was 14.5 on the horn length and scored 80.2...
