Hall action firing pin

I have a Hall M action in a 6PPC that I have taken apart and cleaned, everything went very smoothly until I reassembled it and now the bolt closes very hard. Can take the firing pin back out and insert the bolt and it works fine. I did not take the firing pin assembly apart. Any help out there? @gunsandgunsmithing

Do you have grease on the threads of the shroud? Try unscrewing it exactly one turn and trying it again

Yes, I put TM25 on the threads but then cleaned it off after I had problems including the threads in the bolt. Didn't help, are the threads "timed"? Can't see why they would be but.......

Not sure without seeing it. Dusty might be on the right track. Does the cocking piece bottom out in the fired position. It should not. Over cocking, lube or something in or wrong with the threads are the only things that make much sense. Since you didn't disassemble the fp assembly, it's bound to be something simple.

The last 1/4" of threading it back together gets a little hard to screw in.

Theyre pretty fine threads. Id remove the assembly and clean the shroud real good and inspect the threads. You may need a toothbrush for the internal threads. Surely you just got some trash in there if its not screwed in one turn too much. I had a hall like that one time is why i mention it. As you closed the bolt it would almost line up but the bolt would close. The cocking piece rubbed the bolt real bad and felt awful when fully closing the bolt

Look at the spot im pointing at- make sure its has room to move when decocked.

Inspect the first threads real good for rolled over threads also look for gunk up where the threads fit into the body (between the threads and the big part of the shroud) its a very tite fit in the bolt body

This is driving me nuts and it is a very short drive! Where you have the screwdriver pointed is free and has space (with the tool removed), when I attach the tool to pull it back it becomes very tight and I'm at a loss right now (my bolt looks brand spanking new compared to the one you have there!). The first part of the scroud it looks like threads but they really aren't but that is the area where it starts to be difficult to screw in, all I wanted to do was be a good gun owner and clean the darn thing and do the Alex Wheeler method for checking shoulder bump!! (It's all Alex fault ;-)) I have had my Bat apart several times with no issues.

Take the firing pin assy out of the bolt and see if the firing pin moves in the shroud ok. Sounds like there may be something dragging between the cocking piece and shroud. Between the moly grease and the 20yrs of benchrest shooting that bolt does look ruff in the pics but i think its just the pics. The hobo oil is thick and smeared up on it looking worn as well.

WELL!! Mr. Hall was a pleasure to talk to, he repeated several time "if it isn't broke you can't fix it" thank you sir I wasn't trying to "fix" anything, what I call it is maintenance but I don't know much.
I did use a toothbrush and tried to clean the very clean threads after I put the firing pin and the bolt in an ultrasonic cleaner and then dried it in the Hornady dryer, same results. Here are some pictures for your enjoyment.

The red part is the part i figured was dragging. The pleasures of a pre-cnc action huh? That is the area that keeps it tight in the bolt body. On the second pic the first couple threads do look suspect though or is that just the lighting?

Just the lighting, the main threads are perfect and sharp, the lower section looks like threads that have been filed off or drilled out, yes this is circa 1988

Not a permanent fix but humor me... if you have any teflon tape, wrap it around the threads and try it.

I really dont think that much dragging is hurting you as to what youre describing. Im feeling like its something dragging between the cocking piece and shroud either on the top or the sides and you wont see it until you take it apart. Mr hall used a spring pin thru the firing pin/cocking piece. You can take it apart easily but reassembly is a bear. Put the cocking piece against a wall and push the firing pin in compressing the spring and see if you can feel that dragging.

Nope, fairly smooth, going back down in "the room" and try it again and will let you know, I ran out of hair years ago so no more to pull out,
