I have/had a great shooting, custom Rem 700. It was bedded in a MacMillan HTG stock and has a Mike Rock 5R fluted barrel. I sent the stock and Pacific Tool and Gauge bottom metal and pillars to a gunsmith with a very good reputation for stock work. The first time the stock came back the DBM was inletted about an 1/8 inch too far to the rear, so action screws would not go in. I mailed the stock back and he moved the inlet forward an 1/8 of an inch, leaving a small gap behind the trigger guard. Okay, I can live with that, not perfect, but neither am I. But, now the AICS magazines will not click home into the bottom metal if the action sits all the way down into the stock. If the action is 1/8 of an inch above of the stock at the rear tang, the mags will engage. What are people's diagnosis of this issue?
