Had DBM inletted, now action won't seat correctly.

I have/had a great shooting, custom Rem 700. It was bedded in a MacMillan HTG stock and has a Mike Rock 5R fluted barrel. I sent the stock and Pacific Tool and Gauge bottom metal and pillars to a gunsmith with a very good reputation for stock work. The first time the stock came back the DBM was inletted about an 1/8 inch too far to the rear, so action screws would not go in. I mailed the stock back and he moved the inlet forward an 1/8 of an inch, leaving a small gap behind the trigger guard. Okay, I can live with that, not perfect, but neither am I. But, now the AICS magazines will not click home into the bottom metal if the action sits all the way down into the stock. If the action is 1/8 of an inch above of the stock at the rear tang, the mags will engage. What are people's diagnosis of this issue?
Thanks for the help,

Couple of questions. If you smack the bottom of the mag will it click into position? 2 Is the front flange where the screw goes flush with the stock or is it recessed?

Smacking the bottom does not help. When I raise the action up from the stock, a 10 round AICS mag will seat first with a smack. The 5 round mag seems to need the action to raise a bit more before a smack will seat it. Here are some cell phone photos. I hope they show what you are looking for.

Thanks for taking time to help.

It looks like you have a thick bottom metal flange.
Depending on how deep and how thick the current inlet and flange are, other options might be, bed current bottom metal to fit and let the flange stick out. A bit unsightly. Or find a thinner bottom metal and bed to fit.

Example; the PT&G M5 vs. the Wyatt

Just trying to think of options. Jim probably has the best fix for ya if there is enough material to remove. Looks like close to .100" or more.

I have never worked with the PTG bottom metal but do know that it is not a drop in.
I would think that the pillars supplied with the bottom metal would create the proper dimension/distance from the top of the mag well to the action. Wether your stock matches that dimension is another matter..... it may be that your barreled action will sit high for everything to work properly.
Did the gunsmith shorten the pillars?? That "SEEMS" to be your problem.... your magazine is hitting the action before it engages the mag catch. It's the only reason I can think of.... if you have to raise you action to get a mag to seat.
I would make a set of pillars at the proper length ...... you don't need a stock to see how long the pillars need to be nor to try things out and see if the mag engages...... all you need is pillars of the correct length.
I would give PTG a call and ask them IF the pillars that are supplied are machined to a specific length so everything works properly..... irrespective of the stock being used.
In all fairness, the gunsmith should have had the barreled action along with the bottom metal to fit/check everything.....
He might have shortened the pillars to match your stocks inletting.
Your going to have to re-bed everything properly to get things right.

dipper is correct, the smith should have had everything to do a proper fit, assembly, and function test. and a re-bed at the same time.
Many after market parts require a time consuming amount of time to get everything working perfect, It is a very rare ocasion that it bolts together and runs perfect. This by no means excuses the original mis alignment of the DBM to the existing pillars.

Above posters are right. It usually is a minor matter to fix your problem. You can send it to one of them or take your time and think it through. It is not a biggie.

Look at the PTG sales on the PTG web site . American Sniper Bottom Metal Stealth type. Long or short this week 75 bucks . It almost cost that to make. I have an extra 400 on a military run . Thanks Dave

This good reputation being in his own mind maybe? Sounds like a hack, or somebody unfamiliar with the DBM issues vs. bedding on the other side of the stock.
