Had a bit of luck...am I good to go?

I found a reasonable deal on a Hart .260 Remington barrel. Decided to rebarrel my newish .308 R700. My plan was to at the least, get a set of go/no go gauges and the necessary tools to remove and install barrels. I figured that if it didn't headpspace, I could have a smith install it.

Against all odds, the barrel came off without too much hassle, and the new barrel screwed right on. Took out the extractor, checked headspace with the go and no go gauges, and the new barrel passed. Good close on the go, clear no close on no go.

This thing good to shoot?

Most Remington Actions will allow barrel interchanges and still be within the Go No Go range.

Several years ago, I bought one of the cheap Tupperware stocked 700’s at Academy to rob the action. It was in 243 Winchester.

A fellow club member had a old model 700 in 22-250 that had a shot out barrel. I gave him the new take 243 off, we installed it and it worked just fine.

There was over 30 years difference in the age of the rifles.

Thank you for the info - good to know!

No need to remove the extractor, just hook the gage rim under it. But, you should remove the ejector, as you don't want to be compressing the spring that is under the ejector.

Yes - my bad. It was the ejector that I removed after taking out the pin. Gave a good reading with the gauges after it was removed.
