H4350 vs N560

Still searching for a powder to boost my FPS in the 6.5 PRC. I have plenty of both these powders so figured I'd give them a try. Both should get me around 3000 FPS with a 130 grain bullet according to the books. My last loads with H4831 shot great but were really slow. Retumbo and H1000 are good powders but none to be had around here so I'm using powders I can get. Just curious as to which I should try first????

26" barrel with SAAMI COAL ( 2.995" )
Max load of...

N-560 will get 3,100+ fps
H-4350 will get 3,000+ fps

Vihtavuori seems to under-load some of their data.
While Hodgdon can be either pretty darn close or even a bit too hot in some rare instances.

If you know how to read pressure signs and you're using a chronograph, you'll see the full picture. There are many variables that affect pressures from brass make, primer type, bullet type, chamber and freebore etc.

3000 is just my target number. I can live with a little less and appreciate a little more. I just had a lot of drop between 100 and 200 yds and want to decrease that considerably. Faster velocity is why I dropped the Creedmoors and went PRC. So far I'm not there yet. But I'm just getting started.

H4350 should get you to 3100 at the limit of safe loads. I don't think N560 will go farther than 3000 at the limit. I would try Ramshot Magnum.
I'd even try Ramshot Hunter. When R-16 and H4350 top out, It's
slightly slower burn rate, and way better case fill, does the job
nicely. It's also a good bargain. It's the only ball powder I keep
on the shelf, and you do not need a magnum primer for it.

I got to shoot again today. Loads were with H4350, CCI LRP and 130 grain Berger VLD-Hunter. Starting load was 53.5 and bumped a half grain to 55 grains which produced the best accuracy, sub 1/2 inch at 100yds and an average velocity of 3160 FPS. Primers were starting to show a little pressure. They were flat but still have rounded edges and no sticky bolt or ejection issues. I'm not jamming the bullets but am only .010 off. I may try a little deeper seat and see if it changes anything. I surpassed my target velocity and am happy with both velocity and accuracy. WIN WIN for me today, at least for today.

No Sir I haven't tried it. I'm trying to find a powder that works good and is available on a fairly regular basis. So many powders are hard to find and nothing worse, at least for me, is working up a load and then can't find components. I have a couple of pounds of H4350 and its been on the shelves as of late so its what I will probably keep using at least for now. As for the Bergers, hopefully I can get another box or two before Bass Pro sells out if they haven't already.
