H4350 in a Dasher.

I know someone has had to have tried this already. I have only tested 3 shot groups for pressure up to 35.4. The groups look promising.
I'm only trying this because I have a lot of H4350 that might not otherwise get used.
Last weekend was too windy to set up the chronograph.
The rifle has a 28", 8 twist Bartlien shooting Bib 108's and CCI 450's. It will be used at 600 yds. Hope to get out this week end with the chronograph.
What kind of velocitys can I expect with this powder, how much can I get into a case and how much do I need to get into a case for competitive velocitys?
Thanks.
Larry

i think you will get lower than expected velocities. i tried 4350 in my 6BR with 115 grain berger vlds, and even with compressed loads, i think i was getting about 2675-2700 fps if i remember correctly. it is a little slow for this cartridge even when shooting the heavy bullets. a better choice would be h 4064 or imr 4007 ssc.

Well I shot some this weekend. Early testing is encouraging it's looking like I may be able to a few feet more fps with definitely better ES. But It is only a slight gain the big pain will slow process of getting all the powder in the case and still be able to maintain a consistent seating depth. So far it has been only a small sample and a little more testing needs to be done. The thing is I have a load of this stuff and no Varget. The 4064 looks like it might be promising. Might be worth trying a pound before I make a final decision and a big powder purchase. Need to find someone who wants to trade 8# of 4198 for Varget.

I found the Dasher to be short on case capacity for H4350 and RL17. I know Varget and RL15 are, by many accounts, the powders of choice for the Dasher but I found H4895 and N140 to be excellent in my Dasher barrels. H4895 seems to shoot very well in all of them and the same with N140. N540 has been, for me, a little less predictable, but when I get a load in a rifle that shoots well with it it can be a consistent accurate shooter as well.

Seems I read somewhere that N135 is good for the lighter bullets. The reason I'm trying to get the H4350 working is because I have about 10# of it and money is tight.

Good powder for 70 - 80 gr bullets in the dasher?

I've found H-322 and VV-133 great for 55-70 grain bullets. Too fast for anything larger. I now use 70 grainers and AA-2230-C, a pulled down powder not available any more. It does have the same burning rate as AA-2460, if you're looking for a cheaper alternative.

I've never tried any H-4350 in my Dashers. I'm guessing you can't get enough in to make it perform. Doesn't seem to be cost effective to buy a race horse to pull a plow.

Yes, you can get it to work in some barrels. You will need to tap the powder pan on the funnel as you slowly let it trickle in through a drop tube to get 37gn in. The heavier 108 pills and 450 primers will also help it to burn well.
If I didnt already have a 6mm shooting 108gn bullets at 3080 fps, I would go back to this load with my Dasher. The throat in my Dasher is on the long side though so I can fit it in with the powder tapping exercise.
Quickload says this load is around 64K psi, depending on powder lot which can vary quite a bit.
