H4198 and Hornaday 58 gr. Vmax

Has anybody used this combo in their 6BR? I'm getting closer to putting this all together and looking forward to my first BR!
Was between H4198 or H335 to try with the 58 gr. Vmax. It's a 14 twist, 25" barrel in a Rem. 700, .272 no turn neck.
Also, having a hard time finding CCI 450, BR4 or Rem 7 1/2 primers locally. I have some Winchester small rifle primers, will they work?

Thanks for your help and all the info on this site!

Ok, so 95 people have looked at my post and not a single response. Did I ask the wrong questions?
I have some Benchmark, can't find any AA2230 or N135, so I'm working with what I have.
Open to suggestions and as I said, I have learn alot about the BR from this site, actually its the reason that I now own one!

Thanks for your help

Haven't tried 4198 or 335 yet but AA2200/450's gives outstanding velocity in mine for the 55s/58s. Benchmark wasn't close in vel to 2200.

I don't have any experience with that load, but am very interested to watch and see how it works for you.
I acquired a 6BR with an 8 twist barrel which I really like for the heavy / longer range stuff. It doesn't seem to shoot the lighter bullets very well with exception of the Berger 80gr.
Anything lighter than that doesn't shoot nearly as well as the heavier pills. (which is to be expected).

I am seriously thinking about a 12 or 14 twist 6BR because I want to shoot the lighter bullets at targets and varmints at closer range (200-400ish).

What brand barrel are you using and who chambered it?

One thing I learned about this forum....If someone is asking for experience you're not going to get a bunch of "I heard this" or "I read that" answers here. Many other forums are notorious for people chiming in that have zero experience to speak of.

So if you don't get a quick response it's just because the right person hasn't read the thread yet. But when you get a response it's usually experience talking.....

It has been a lengthy process! I bought this from CapnT who had bought it at an estate sale from an elderly gentleman that shot groundhogs in the early 90's in upstate NY. It was a tight neck (.262) which I had Adam Bentley at Dresden Gun Company ream out to a .272 chamber with a .050 freebore. It is on its way back as we speak, as for brand, Adam thought it was probably a Shilen or Douglas considering the time frame that it was built.

I am going to start with some 58 gr. Vmax, maybe try some 65 gr. Vmax and go from there. I'll post some pics in the next couple of weeks and this project progresses.

Damon555, I agree wholeheartedly with you on your response and that is the reason I enjoy this site. There is a wealth of knowledge available here, I just wasn't sure if I was asking the wrong questions or just not the correct one.

GrocMax, thanks for the heads up on Benchmark, I won't have to try that one!

Thanks again guys, I do appreciate the help.

Its not that Benchmark won't work, there's a wide variety of powders that will work just fine. I tend to choose the higher velocity route and 2200 was significantly higher before pressure issues with 55's and 58's. If BM is what you have by all means use it. For the 65 vmax BM was the best for me.
