H414

Ive burned over 200lbs of H414 since the 70s in my 243,708,22-250,6mms,270,308....works in just about any medium case and does not require a mag primer as already stated. Still use it today.

Ive used it in my 308 and 260 Remington and it has worked great in both. Ive never noticed it to be dirty or temperature sensitive. I am really glad the OP asked this question it may open new uses for 760 win/h414 .

This is perfect timing for me. I am working up a "first load" for a pre-72 Sako 579 heavy barrel .243 Win.

I have an adequate supply of W760 and a couple of pounds of H414 so I was leaning toward this. W760 with an Accubond 130gr is my go to deer round for my 260 Rem Mountain Rifle. A fine performer.

I understand the 414/760 may actually burn a little cooler in the 243 and could extend barrel life. Not a bad idea. My rifle is a 1:10 twist with a throat so long (or eroded) that I can't seat a 105 gr speer into the cartridge case and have it reach the lands. Going to be a big jump.

Anybody have a 243 414/760 load they are using in Sako 579's?

thanks rch

I've had great luck with it and it meters great. The metering part is why I use it anything that I want to load in volume. Does seem to soot up my brass a little more that other powders. I'm mostly a summer shooter and hadn't had any velocity swings running it from 45-90degs. Best part is its made in the US (versus AU) and is usually available on the shelves when others are not.

Forgot to add; I've probably shot 20 lbs of it and never once used a magnum primer. I shoot it in a 243Win for fall hunting and have never had issues with standard primers.
