H414

I use 414 in my 7-08 also. Get great results with it. It is very similar in burn rate to W760 as I recall and meters well.

You really cant call them the same as their burn rate is different and hodgdon says it is what it is and not related to any other powder, meaning not interchangable.

On their reloading site the powder charges are the same for the same bullets in the same gun....seems like they said it was a while back so I guess it depends on who answers.

I have run it in a .308 with a long seated 208 grain A-Max in a Palma case. It was able to produce high velocities with sane pressures. I really didn't have the barrel length to maximize it and have since pulled my slow twist barrel which ended the experiment. Give it a try and Quick Load should give you some ideas on charge weight. I have never tried it in a .223 and personally don't think it would have any applications in that little bipper. JMHO ;)

H414 is WW760 just like H110 and WW296 are the same powders.

True

False

I tried H414 in the 223 with 90gr Berger & JLK VLDs - couldn't get enough of it into the little 223 case to give decent velocities, and fouling was pretty heavy. Not surprising with a ball powder too slow for the application.

I've shot a little of the H414 in a 260 Imp, and it's much better suited for use in this ctdg.

While it may not be the best choice for either cartridge, Hodgdon used to include H414 data in older manuals, like #26. With the .223 and .308, published velocities were comparable to other powders, but only when using heavier bullets.

Fellows: Im running low on H4350 that I use in my Swedish m96 6.5x55.

Would H414 be a good sub as it seems to be more available the any of the 4350 powders?

Yes H414 will work well in the Swede 6.5X55. It is not hard to find a good accurate load with any medium to slow burning powder with the Swede.
