Got photo's ??My new H-S Precision stock has the worst finish I ever saw on any rifle stock. Before I ordered the stock I saw a couple negative comments about this, but I thought "well it can't be thar bad"...it is. What to do?
You just described a HS Precision stock. I’m going to guess you’ve never had one before? I love them but I don’t use talc on them like I do on my benchrest stuff. I use a bag in front and adjust the rear. I don’t consider them a competition stock for sliding in a front rest. To me they’re more for improvised positions. I shoot with them almost as good as my benchrest rifles but they have a different approach. It's hard to explain. Maybe it's like a process I used once on a boat deck to make it non-slip. The kit contained a thick lumpy matte texture paint and a small bag of sand. Brush on the paint, then, while it's still wet, sprinkle the grit on it. It's dull black, but if you get any talc on it, it will be white till you figure out how the hell to get it off. Pics coming but I don't think it will get the feel across.

I usually just "grin and bear it" but I think you are right, this is ridiculous.Wow! That is a way too aggressive texture. I'd cal them about it. It's almost like a rasp
Very funny Coyote....there's always a comedian in the crowd lol.The new popcorn ceiling look.
I talked to a fella at H-S before I ordered the stock. Looking back on it, I think you may be right.Yah thats not their normal finish. Thats bad and I would send it back. For a field gun I don't mind there normal web finish but that is horrible, I don't know how it made it out of the shop like that. Looks like a Crack-Head painted that. Hmmmm..... I wonder if Joe decided to get his son a new job...
I have a hell of a lot of elbow grease in opening up the barrel channel, so I think your suggestion is the only fix. I have had stocks professionally painted, but I'm not about to do that on this one. Any suggestions on the paint? Krylon....ughhhThat thing is rougher than a cobb.knock it back 320/500 and repait it.

I would just send it back to HS. That's not normal. Let them fix it.
