H&R M 12

Thanks for info.
I found a short picatinny scope mount that fit, so hope that works. The
trigger could use some smithing though. I'm used to jewels and spoiled
I guess.

Nice rifles. Years ago CMP/DCM sold them for $300 with Palma/Olympic sights. I think the army team may have used them for matches or training (don’t quote me) and the commercial version was H&R 5200. I think it was Ken Viani (sp?) who made a long rail would which accommodate a scope and iron sights if that interests you. Original stock is blocky and had a handrail. Ejection can be a little on the weak side. Stock trigger is nothing to write home about. Some of them shoot good enough to be fun and putting a little money in is worth it to increase your enjoyment. Hope you got a shooter!
They seem to like CenterX but YMMV.

I think it was more along the lines of an introductory rifle for teaching smallbore. The AMU were using Anschutz (Walther for Bassham) at this time.
Back in the 60's 70's and 80s there were more Army Teams than just the AMU. Lots of post and Station teams. Like 3rd and 5th ARMY for eaxample and all the National Guard and Reserve units. Lots of them had 50 foot ranges in the Armory and a bunch of these M12's 52 Winchester's, Rem 40 X's came from those.

Don’t mean to hijack the thread but some folks might find the video why Bassham went with Walther vs Anschutz interesting.

I have a couple and really like them. It's not an Annie or a custom, but I'd put it up against any other Mil. trainer out there. 1 likes older Lapua Master L, the other likes Wolf ME. of the lots I have.

I've had one for quite some time, purchased from the CMP long ago. Mine is a great shooter, but I've always been plagued with the mystery fliers.

My rifle will consistently throw 1 or 2 shots while stacking up the others. Below is a typical 10 shot group @ 50 yards (front rest & rear bag). This behavior is seen with multiple brands on ammo, although some brands don't throw as wide a flyer. I even went so far as to mount the rifle in a fixture to see if it was me, but the same behavior was seen.

In my reading over the years, I've heard people claim these rifles were known to have tight spots in the bore. Since mine is more of a "fun gun" I've never really pursued getting a replacement barrel.

There was a guy named Ken Viani that made mounts for these rifles that are absolutely rock solid, but I believe he discontinued production some time ago though. BKL also makes mounts that work well on the M12.

Great rifles for the money though!

I picked up one of these in really nice shape. Anyone know anything about them?
Thanks
If you plan on shooting it a lot I recommend that you pick up a couple of the cocking screws that go in the bolt and ride on the bolt sleeve. Some of the original ones were soft and worn relatively quickly. Don't remember the thread count or diameter but they are small in the realm of clock work size and have a left handed thread.

In past years (20+ ago) someone made after market ones that were hardened to a higher RC number.
would occasionally see them advertised on the CMP site and Rimfire Central.

I think you are referring to the Kimber 82g . The H&R uses a set up like the win 52 with 2 cocking cams .
