H-4350 SC

I brought me a new bottle of H-4350 SC. I used up all of my H-4350. The question that I have is, can I load the same charge amount with the short cut powder when comparing to the charge wt. of the regular cut H4350. Would it make difference with pressure? If so, how much do I drop off? Ball park estimate...............

Brandon, even if they were theoretically the same burn rate, and I don't know if that's correct), just changing lots of powder is reason enough to go down and work back up. Apart from pressure and safety issues, you might find that the accuracy sweet spot has shifted. I would go down 5% and come back up carefully.

The back off and start over again would also apply to changing primer brands, along with powder lot numbers... It never hurts to be safe, and it sure hurts if you don't..

Over the years there have been several versions of the H-4350 ...all good....the earliest I ever used was made in Scottland,Scottish as it was called..made in the Royal Scott plant I think..!!??!!) it was black in color and the typical big and long logs,,,sorta like 4831...then in the 80's the powder started being manufactured in Australia--thus the "Aussie" version was born...it was grey in color and not much smaller granules...then along came "Aussie" short cut still dark,,but measured much better,,,and now to the best of my knowledge is the Aussie Extreme...sorta gold color ......and with the shorter granules...was called SC briefly then just 4350...but they are short like the 4831....
Most of the newer aussie lots of powder require aprox. 1 gr more to achieve the same pressure and velocity....but aprox 4# less on your Culver powder measure, for those of us who "Dare"..grin)because it is much denser ....
If your old powder was Aussie ..and then new is also...no matter what the color or granular size ...use aprox the same wt and you shuld be fine.....hope this helps.......Roger
