H 1000 & 6XC

HI All

I've been following the 6CM thread and am wondering if anyone has had any luck with H1000 in a 6XC pushing 105-108 class bullets?

Thanks

Joe Hendrick shot the 6XC. The barrel life was bad that is why he designed the 6CM to be shot with H-1000, for greater barrel life and accuracy. His mission statement on the 6CM is a good read, for it does all that he was wanting it to do. Back to the 6XC which is a verygood cartridge, others have tried it, but it is not a fast enough powder for that case.

Thanks for the replies.

It was just a thought.

The original Schneider on my T2K went 2380 documented rounds before any accuracy loss. When it went south, it went without warning. That's about average life, from what I hear. I'm about to change barrels again and was hoping H1000 would work and last 4000 in the XC.

Thanks

tried it in mine with 115 dtac. 2750fps with good accuracy. i just want more velocity! try h4831. as good as the 6CM may be i have a really hard time believing double the barrel life over the other 6's.

Just wondering if you do the TMS(throat maintenance system) that David recommends for the barrel during its life span, and if you shot HBN coated bullets. I too have a original G Schneider barrel and am only at 800 rounds but I am following David's recommendations to the T just to see the total life of the barrel. I shoot xtc and LR with the gun and currently have settled on 38 grains of 4350 @ 2920 for the 115 HBN DTAC bullet.

THe thing with H1000 is that you'll run out of case capacity before you get the velocity that you would want. It's good powder, i use it in my 6SLR and i'm getting 3050fps out of the case with a 105, it isn't a speed demon but i'm also going to have better barrel life and it shoots pin holes at that velocity.

Tubb is shooting a mix of powders in his xc, and i've hear that part of the mixture has h1000 in it. But blended powders are not for the faint hearted.

I'd say give the H1000 a try, see if you get the velocities that you'd want. Call up Hodgdon and ask them if they have a starting load for the xc in h1000. I'd bet they've tried it.

I shot a 4 shot test over the chrono wit 40.0 gr of H-1000 and a 105 gr sierra in the 6XC. It yielded 2600 fps with a group in the .2's. The volume was above the shoulder. I don't think you would get the velocity you are looking for.
I am shooting RE-22 at 43.8 gr with a 105 gr bullet. The chrono told me 3150 out of my 28" barrel. The accuracy looks very good from a guy that can't shoot.
From a 100 yd zero, it is 3.5 moa to 400 and 8.5 to 600. The ballistics calculator says the velocity is closer to 3200.
It helps to use a drop tube with the Re-22

Thank you all for the great info.

Think I'll stay with the tried and true H4350 and replace barrels @ 2000 rnds.

On another note .... how would H1000 do in a standard 6mm Rem??

Thanks again and good shooting

Brian
