Gunsmiths worked with Cooper actions?

Hi

I have posted this else where as well, but I am just looking for the asnwers on the Coopers actions.

I am wanting to know what the actions squareness and tolerances are like.

I am not trying to put a bad word on Cooper, but just looking as I am wondering where they stack up in the action manufacturers. Are they better than remington.......

If I have another barrel put onto the Coopers, I just want to know that it is worth it without having it tured etc..

Cheers

There really is no answer to your question.

Among other things, it depends upon who Cooper had doing the work, when and so on. If you intend to rebarrel the action, I would suggest that you simply contact a 'smith who can true the action for you and be done with it. The result, no doubt, will be more satisfying in the end.

I briefly owned a Cooper and the metal work was subbed out.

Just picked up a new barrel from my gunsmith, Bob Green, last week. He had a Cooper sitting there he had recently rebarreled. You might give him a call:

Also, think I read a while back that Clay Spencer did a lot of work on Coopers. Don't have his web site, check it out on BR Central, gunsmiths.

When I asked my gunsmith that question, all he said was that "they need truing." He didn't elaborate and I didn't ask for more. I don't feel it's knocking Cooper, after all, you get a pretty well-made rifle for not all that much more than a custom action.

I've yet to see a Cooper that didn't shoot right out of the box. Are they custom BR quality NO. But neither is the price. Do I think they need Truing? NO

As for the "they need truing" comment... In comparison to what? a Bat action? an Alpine? a Remington? A comment like that has no merit!

But I'm biased and own a 1/2 dozen Coopers and they all shoot.
