okie

Silver $$ Contributor
looking for someone to work on a model 7400 rem in SE oklahoma---anyone heard of "modern gun works"???

Pack it up and send it to S&S Sporting, the smith is a Master Gunsmith and works on any kind of rifle including the Rems. He is in Idaho, the sending of the rifle is well worth it. They have a Fed X contract so return shipping is pretty reasonable.
He's on vacation till next week, you can reach him at 208-313-1570

My best, John K

dksac2 thanks---was trying to regulate craigs blood pressure---looks like it worked mp

I don't know why he hates Remingtons so much. They are not a target grade rifle, but have killed a great deal of game.

I think maybe things can be presented in a better way, everyone is free to express an opinion, it's the way it done. To insult a gunsmith that I know to be one of the best around because he works on any kind of firearm including Rems is just not right.
A good Gunsmith will work on any gun that is from a good company, some are tough, but that is what seperates the great smiths from the so-so one's, the ability to fix any firearm that comes into the shop as long as the gun is repairable, some are not, but the smith will let you know, especially if unsafe.

Finding a smith that can fix just about anything, make parts if need be etc, that is a geat smith to do business with.
I'm a retired smith and this guy amazes me with his talent.

I wonder if his smith can take a Stevens bolt gun, design a bullet with a better BC than anything available, have it turned on a CNC, build a rifle that will put 3 shots into 22" at 3000 yards. Club shoot or it would have been a national record. 338 Lapua. He guarentee's the Savage rifles, Rems etc bolt guns to put 3 rounds into .3" or less at 100 yds, I know of no other smith who guarentee's anything less tha 1/2"

Thank You for the reply.

It's obvious you don't care for the Rem pumps and semi auto CF rifles. They have their problems to be sure, I have worked on more than a few.
I just thought it was a little strong, but I am the first one to defend anyone's opinion, does not matter if I agree or not, because I have had more than a few opinions of my own that have sturred the pot.

Your are a big man to reply as you did, I have much respect for anyone who mends fences.

My smith just love firearms so much, he turns down little. I've seen him work on double rifles, shotguns worth many thousands of dollars down to Hi Points, he just loves working on firearms and has one of those IQ's and minds that forgets nothing and even things he's never seen before, he's just right into them and has them figured out and fixed. I admire him a great deal. As a former smith, I know what it's like to have the satisfaction of making anything from a work of art to a low priced gun work and much better than it was when it came into the shop, smithing is a labor of love. Gotta be, because I never got rich, made a decent living, but did without a lot also.

Take care my friend, John

I guess I shouldnt ask for any trigger adjustments or chambering work for a while---craig im gonna leave an rx for xanax down at rb's for u to pick up---and probably some lithium also,.... homer

Graig, as a fellow smith, though retired, I fully understand.
It's great when you can specialize, my smith specializes in Savage rifles, both RF and CF, but still does other work, he enjoys a change from just Savages and he gets some very expensive, beautiful rifles that few smiths could afford to work on, those are always so great to look at, the craftsmanship that goes into some of the English doubles, shotguns as well as some of the finer American firearms is always something that makes a smith who truly appreciates quality stop and just look at for a good length of time.
There was a double sent in, the engraving some of the best we had seen. There was a mark on the ear of an elephant. Seemed strange, everthing else was perfect.
We got a lope out. It was a bird, beak, feathers legs, perfect, but it could not be seen with the naked eye.
It's those kinds of things that makes one appreciate the work that is done on firearms.
Regular firearms are fine also, a diversion sometimes.

My best, John
