Gunsmith to Tune 700 Trigger

Neil Jones, Saegertown Pa. (814) 763-2769. Web page: www.neiljones.com, e-mail: njones@mdvl.net

Over the years he's done a few for me. Taken them down to a reliable 1#.

Neil is indeed the man, but if the OP is careful and handy, and have a couple of basic tools, then you should be able to tune the trigger yourself, in maybe 15 minutes.

I recommend adjusting only the spring-weight screw. Google for instructions and you'll see what's required.

I've adjusted at least a dozen, with good/safe results every time except the one occasion when the tiny spring fell out -- and I didn't see it, but found it quickly -- when I was adjusting a trigger outdoors for a buddy just before a squirrel shoot. (Without the spring, the rifle wouldn't stay cocked, which is a no-no...)

Thanks' Guys!
I'm kinda careful, and maybe handy, but for the life of me, can't get the creep out of it. Looks like Neil has some work headed his way.

Yes, Neil is the man for 700 triggers. He has done probably a dozen for me over last 20 years and they are perfect...

SEEK A PROFESSIONAL

Dan, nobody knows everything. When my niece wanted to learn how to poach an egg, she watched youtube. Should she have instead gone to a restaurant to talk to the chef? When I wanted to see how to rebuild the carb on my '68 Camaro, I checked out youtube? Should I have gone to a mechanic?

I realize that some tasks require lots of experience, and may well be better left to a professional, like welding. But lots of things can be done by careful people on their own.

Pros learned by doing too. Each and every one of them. 8)

A poached egg won't shoot you in the foot,,,,, or take your huntin' buddies head off! A carb thats not re-built/assembled correctly just means a motor that won't run or runs poorly.

Yes, we all know the advantages of a Jewell trigger, the triggers of choice in all my Remington 700's, Bat's and Panda, but the original question from mlc81654 was where to get an original 700 trigger tuned.

To that end, some of us answered his question.

Bad triggers don't necessarily make a gun dangerous, but poor handling may....... Your gun should never be pointed at anything that you don't want to shoot. Even the best of the best had to start with trigger number 1. . . If the best of the best trigger tuners never tried it on their own their wouldn't be any trigger tuners once the existing ones die off. A willingness to learn and some common sense has made many very skilled people. . . just my .02.

I agree with Dans40X and shortgrass. Many years ago I followed a youtube and cocking my model 7 went off and almost shot my buddy. Neil has a good rep. I use Jewells on my comp rifles and Shilens on my hunting rifles.

Big Thanks' to all who recommended Neil Jones to tune a 700 trigger.
Just got it back, set @ 1 1/2lbs nice & crisp!
Thanks Guys!!!
