Gunsmith to Reline 22LR Barrel

The inevitable question, so I may as well:

Pawnee, I assume this is a valuable heirloom firearm of some kind, such that it bears keeping the exterior of the barrel intact?

I used Redman for one. Ok, but expensive. I have one at Dennis Erhardt now and feel real good about him. John Taylor is a member of the ASSRA forum and is well respected by the folks there. Both of mine are different Remington Rolling Block rifles. It is lesser expensive than purchasing a new barrel and having it chambered. Now, since I chamber my own, it would be a little cheaper for me to replace the barrel.

No, it's just a plain old gun that I am fixing up for my grandson. I would like to keep the exterior of the barrel intact as I plan on bluing it later on.

Be aware that some adhesives/soft solders used in relining .22 barrels will not stand the heat of caustic hot bluing. Might talk to the person doing the relining and tell him about your plans to reblue afterwards. Might discuss bluing it first or you could rust blue after relining and not have to worry about the heat.

Can't speak on the caustic blue, Mine have been rust blued.

Loctite 638 stands up to hot blue and parkerizing. I do relines and can do yours. Redmans wont touch a Model 12. I charge just as much as he does, its a bit of work to do it right.
