Gunsmith installed muzzle brake today

My GS has installed several that were seamless even after
removal and reinstall. The most obvious was a company installed unit by the originator of the brake, not to mention it cost the
most. LDS

I do them where they are seamless before and after. Main points being making sure threads are a snug smooth fit, making sure both mating shoulders are perfectly parallel and square to each other, and finishing it while the brake is in place.

The guy that replaced me when I left the gun shop I was working for at the time couldn't figure it out. It's not hard, but it takes a little extra time to do it right. You need to single point the threads too. A die will give too much slop to re-index the brake. The brake also needs to be double checked for flatness and usually prepped before installing.

Not the best photo, but you get the idea. Had to screen shot an old video I did.

The seam in the photo is in the polished area. Was blended with the barrel before blasting the barrel again.

Muzzle brakes are usually either 1/2-28 or 5/8-24.

A few years ago I got a Krieger barrel that was factory chambered for 300 Win Mag, blued, and threaded for muzzle brake, but someone either specified or made 1/2-24 threads. I got this barrel for 20 cents on the dollar. I rethreaded it for the smaller threads of a Mosin Nagant. I modified the magazine. I made a ejector override button so 3.34" long cartridges could be extracted unfired. I could not modify the ejection port, as both the front and rear are camming surfaces for the bolt.

I just cut off the muzzle brake threads and re crowned that barrel.
