Guns of the 'week'

I think the Guns of the Week section of your website should be updated more often. Or just change the title to something like, "Guns of the Quarter," because it isn't updated enough.

The moderator pretty much does the whole thing by himself, which means that when a new feature is created, the Daily Bulletin for instance) other projects may fall behind. I will suggest to him that he report to the nearest Kinko's for their newest Rapid Cloning service, so that there may be more of him to go around. In the mean time one might consider the effect that sarcastic remarks have on the motivation of someone who is working so hard for so little reward to give us all the most outstanding accuracy oriented web site that I know of, AT NO COST to those of us who enjoy it. On the other hand, if you have some good pictures of a worthy rifle....the next article may come that much sooner.

um, then instead of complaining about it why don't you do the research on a new gun, fly out to the proper location, take the appropriate pictures, talk to the owner, spend time to write & type up the article, and then hand it in to the people in charge of this website so they can update their "guns of the week" more often.

The same people who spend their own TIME and MONEY keeping this FREE website up so morons like you can complain about it. This is probably one of the best websites around bar none when it comes to anything 6mm... These people do an outstanding job, and this site is loaded with some excellent info. Go start your own website with better and more up to date information.

Edited by Moderator: I deleted the last bit. We appreciate the words of support--but there's no need to use "cuss words".

Unlike print magazines we don't have the funds to hire staff writers. As Boyd mentioned, 95% of the work on the website falls on my shoulders, and mine alone. The Daily Bulletin consumes about 15 hours per week. Answering user emails is another 1-2 hours per day. A major Gun of the Week story can be 20-30 manhours, AFTER the photos and text are submitted. That said, I know folks want more articles and that's my priority.

Wow, I have to fall back on the ol' rule..."if you don't have anything nice to say...don't say anything at all" for not sure if you know the time and $$$ that is put into this site. Why not drop a 1000.00 check in the mail for the moderator's time and effort and he will more than likely write you up another fabulous article. I for one am tickled pink with how this site is run and the info provided within at whatever pace seen fit by those doing the work and those contributing.

I think that rule might have applied some of the other posts on this thread. Give the guy a break. How do you expect a new arrival to know that there's only one guy putting all this together?

Well Remingtaylor why don't you donate some money to this site to help things out? I think the moderator does a terrific job and I donate money to help defray his costs and keep him doing good work. Get your 'skin in the game' before you criticize.

I belong to many different messages boards on the net. Here I mostly just lurk and read to gain knowldge have not been a member long. I have been an informal benchrest shooter all of my life. I come here and check things out just about once a day. I will agree that this is one of the very best shooting web sites out there. I understand now that only one person does most of the work. So as new things roll in I am more than happy to read them. The last gun of the week,Bandlands Savage) has me now thinking hard about buying a savage when I buy a new rifle. it does not really matter in the whole scheme of things. I can think of much more pressing matters to complaine about. If you do not like how a web site is run then do not visit that web site.

Keep up the good work on the site.

Instead of criticizing, how about contributing a gun of the week article yourself.

Paul, you do a damn fine job. Pay no attention to crap like that...

:D I check 6mmBR and BR Central every day. I think this is the best site that I have found for info on Long Range BR shooting. I think the editor of this site does an outstanding job, and if I wasn't so lazy I would submit another Gun of the week. However, I would rather be shooting than writing.:comp: I don't think we need a new Gun every week, with the new Daily Bulletin feature. Plus, I often go over the past "Gun of the Week"
features to look at the pictures and review info on different cal. bullets
that I am thinking about using. I don't know of another site that has as many cool Gun Pin Ups. The info on Annealing and Ultrasonic Cleaning was helpful, and I can find everything else I want on 6mmBR.
I want to thank the Editor for a job well done.:thumb: Gerry Nordmann

I echo the others positive comments, there is a vast amount of knowledge here.I have been enlightened by other members who are willing to share what they have experienced.

Hi! I've been reading on this site for over a year now, picked up a lot of useful information here.I don't know Paul at all,I think he does a great job on this site,I give money to this site when i am able.I've always been under the impression that he has a 40 hr a week job.He probably devotes more time to this site then he should.Personally i don't know where he finds enough time to go shooting himself, which iiiiiiiiii'm sure he really enjoys. If you notice most of the guns of the week are from all over the country, and world. So what ever information he gets about articles for new guns,i'm sure he spends at least 20 hours of his time making up the articles, for us.Keep up the good work Paul.Thank you Rudy Manuel

The general consensus here is that the moderator does an excellent job and we all think this is one of the best sites on the internet. I personally don't see how you have the time to put into this site and hold down a full time job. I thank you from all of us who recognize the self sacrifice and dedication that you have put into this site and I will contribute whenever I can. Keep up the good work!

p.s. To all who just view this site. This moderator has expenses like everyone else, internet fees, his time, etc. If you find this a good site, contribute what you can to help this guy out and pay him for his time. There are magazines that aren't as good as this website.

Chino--

This basically IS my primary job. Where does the time go? As noted, 15+ hours a week is consumed by doing the daily bulletin. 10-12 hours per week just answering emails and monitoring the board. Maybe another 10 hours a week talking to people about projects or ordering/packing items for testing. Saturday night, for example, I spent a couple hours on the phone with a gunsmith talking about rimfire actions and 2-groove barrels for a future story. Then a number of hours are spent making sure everything works right with the servers and trying to update/upgrade pages. That's about 40 hrs right there, before doing major articles.

Today, for example, I'll update the BLOG and that will take 5 hours or so. I'll also spend two hours at a range taking some more pictures for a future story. That was after two hours spent on the Daily Bulletin and researching a question for a user.

It would basically be impossible to run the site at this level and hold down a full-time position.

Note, a staff writer on a magazine might do 2, at the most 3 articles a month, and normally they wouldn't also be doing marketing, PR, answering emails, and building the layout,in our case building html pages). Layout is VERY time-consuming.

To put things in perspective, one of the premier shooting magazines charges $37.00/year. If they have 10,000 subscribers that's $370,000 in revenue BEFORE advertising. Currently our user donations generate about $2400/year, less than 1% of $370K.

Fellow web viewers,
I urge you to read the above from the moderator and try to contribute what and when you can.
