Gunpowder Availability?

I spoke to Sinclair a few weeks back and they told me Hodgdon powder is not coming in because of trade issues. I do not have a clue what that means.

Can anyone tell me if they are getting Hodgdon powder.

Most of you have a stock pile but many of us do not. If we can't get powder we can't shoot. Yes, I should have been smart enough to buy kegs before but I was not into rifle until last summer. And since I was working up loads I was buying by the pound.

Are things easing up and I just can't see it or is this as bad as I think it is.

Please respond - I need to hear from everyone.

Within the last two weeks I was able to buy case quantities of H1000, Varget, and Retumbo. They also had H414 available. No H110. Didn't look at much of anything else. A month before I bought a case of H4831, they had some H110 available then, too. Should have bought a case of that as 1/2 case sold quickley, at the limit of 2# per customer.

It's hard to tell if things are "easing up". There is still a lot of pressure on the industry from those who, as soon as new supplies arrive, buy up huge quantities of reloading materials. From the stand point of supply, I believe things are getting better. From the standpoint of demand, things seem to be getting worse in many areas. When a supplier gets several thousand boxes of bullets in the morning and they're all sold by noon (a recent experience related to me) it looks like we're gonna wait a very long time until shooters/reloaders calm down and stop hoarding.

Thanks.

I was going to suggest if we could not get powder imported into the USA we get in touch with Hodgdon and we start making it here. I am sure we could get the people and resources together and make it work. There are some of us who still want to see America manufacturing things.

The EPA and other government regs are making that harder and harder. The "war's" not only on coal.

Don't think the shooters in the rest of the world would like to see that either. Your gov't wouldn't let any of it be exported out of the country.

Steve3,
Despite all the suggestions and comments, you never did say what Hodgdon powders you were looking for or in need of. Perhaps someone has some or knows where to send you if you'd clue us in. Thx.

I'm going to guess that "Varget" was what he had in mind. Just like every other person out there that can't find any.

I'd like a pound of retumbo and H1000 for load development if its available.2 new rigs and No powder.

I have both on the shelf. But, I'm not a HazMat shipper. HazMat charges generally negate ordering just a couple of pounds. The Varget is gone.

I have bought 24 lbs of Varget within the last couple months all the same lot number so it's out there if you look and wait, I do not want to hear the word hoard or I am gonna go berzirk!!! there is no such thing if your using it!!!!!! I live in a relative small community, the closest town to me is Lewiston Idaho 45 miles to the north, and it about 40000 people there and the little locally owned ma and pa place I get my supplies from have provided me with this powder along with 10lbs of H4895, the only powder I have not got there and that is because I just missed it that I would like to have is H4350, and I will eventually find a large amount of it and buy it up also. Stop bouncing around, put a order in with a outfit that is willing to try and have some different outlets and just sit tight, it will come!

If its easing up I haven't seen it. Here in the middle of Wyoming , you can get all the powder you want as long as its Leverevolution , E3 shotgun powder or Blackhorn 209!!!!!!!!

+1 , I'm waiting patiently on bullets that I ordered 2.5 months ago. I should have them early to mid September. ;D Powder works the same way, unless you see someone willing to free up some that can Haz Mat ship.

Bozo is right. It's out there, just give it time. Since the beginning of the year my supplier has a slow but steady flow of powders. I've probably peddled off 70-80lbs. of Varget in that amount of time. As a result, my small shop has been able to keep my 'regulars' supplied with their needs of primers, powders, and bullets with a short wait most of the time if it's not on the shelf. Common brass (Winchester) is still currently unavailable to me, but , there's a reasonably steady supply of the higher end stuff (Lapua & Nosler,,,,,, sometimes some Norma). It costs right at $1000 to become a HazMat shipper plus 'out of town' expenses because the required classes aren't held 'everywhere'. There's just not enough profit to cover that kind of expense for small shops and still come out ahead.

I'd do almost anything for some H4350. Been waiting for that for a while now. I've got IMR4350, H100V, Norma MRP, 7828SSC, RL-17, and others, but for the life of me, can't get my hands on H4350.

The only varget I can find at several local shops is a couple overpriced 1 pounders. I have been trying to backorder a couple 8 pounders but can find anyone that does backorder right now. Any suggestions?

BOZO,

I could spare some h4350, I could tolerate to get my hands on some 450's to hoard. Let me know if you want me to drag 8,16,24# to the championship match. Would also like to hoard some r15. Maybe we can trade some hoarded supplies in August.

Tom
Tom,
I need 450's myself and when I can get some I will hoard them for you, Leo, Lonnie and Derek, I don't know if I will make the champion ship shoot, if I do it will probably be with old guns and not my Anderson 6brdx as I have had no time to f.f or work up a load, so I guess it will debut next year, I have 10000 cci 41's and quit a few 400's and maybe 5000 Br4's but only maybe 1000-1500 450's but I will do what I can my friend.
