I use just normal bench vices. I have two, one 8 inch and one 6 inch with padded jaws

I have a couple plastic Tipton and MTM gun vises, but more often than not I put oak blocks in my 6" bench vise and clamp the barrel. Powdered sugar makes an excellent substitute for rosin.

I use a bench vise with different attachments for ar's depending on what I'm doing. For bolt actions just the bench vise which I'm not a fan of but haven't seen anything else

What’s the status of the Benjamin in the back ground???

I use a Wilton woodworking vise, with the moveable jaw that pivots. I put a towel in the jaws to cushion the stock. Got it for woodworking and later found it works as a gun vise.

My gunsmith used a Wilton (vintage) machinists with a thick sheet of leather as a cradle in the jaws, similar to the image posted by lawman29.
