Gun Vise Recommendations

Looking for a quality gun vise, will be used primarily for cleaning my benchrest rifle. I need something that can handle the wide forarm, typical on benchrest rifles. Recommendations please.

I clean my guns outside /carport/shed.
If i dont clean them at the range.
So i use a Black & Decker Workmate .

Just lay a towel in it and clamp you forend in place.
Works great for the 50 and down.

Not sure why you think you need a 'gun vise' to clean a benchrest rifle. I have a Tipton vise I use for my AR and the rare occasions I bed a rifle but have never had one of my bench rifles in it. Spring, Summer, and Fall, I clean several BR rifles almost every weekend, not including some test/tune sessions during the week. Go to the PMA Tool website in Ft. Wayne, IN and buy one (or several like I have) of their unapparelled cleaning cradles. They are all that is needed and are very high quality. Go to a big BR tournament (CF or RF) and you will see dozens of them........for good reason.

If you have any skills with wood or metal you can make your own. I like a little more tilt forward to drain all the cleaning fluids out the barrel and not in the trigger. It doesn't take much to foul a br trigger.

I have a Tipton and an MTM gun vise. They're handy for working on guns or mounting scopes, but I don't really use either to clean guns. I tend to just clean them in the floor on a cheap yoga mat.

I have used this jewelers vise and felt block forever and am happy with it. The jewelers vise was rarely used and was put to good use for this. To work it has to be securely mounted to the bench so it can not move.
The rear block is just a piece of 4 x 4 covered in adhesive backed felt. Really any vise with safe jaws would work, just mount it to a piece of plywood and clamp it to the bench.
