Gun Smith in ND, MN?????

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a gunsmith to put together a rifle for me. Most likely it will be a Krieger barrle and a Stiller action IF I decide to go the route I'm looking at now.

Any recommendations?

I want to do a 22BR and don't have a reamer.

I'd like the gun back within a month.

Probably great expectations I know, but anyone have any names? I'd even be willing to send it outside the area to get the work done.

Thanks

Have you taken a look at Nate Dagley from Straight Shot Gunsmithing? He works out of Center ND, i am having him build a 284 win for me. I am not sure on his wait times though, he is pretty busy, (i think that is a good sign ;)), he has an awesome reputation. There is a fellow in Cassleton ND that also has a good reputation from what i hear, i dont recall the name though. I might be able to get you a #.

Chad at Longrifles does great work,he's at Sturgis. There is a good gunsmith at Dickinson but I can't think of his name.

That a short time frame especially if you don't have the parts in hand.

Hal, im in Dickinson and didnt know there was a good smith, could it be Joel Ackerman?

Yep I believe hes out there.

I know that name but I didn't realize he was doing work.

Thanks guys, i'll have to look into some of these guys.

The action is on its way, I won't have it until April most likely. the barrel I can have here shortly.

I only know of Joel because Nate Dagley asked if i knew him. I have a gunsmith thats lives like 3 blocks away but i dont know of his reputation.

The man you are probably thinking of in Dickinson is Dave Logosz. Not sure if he is still doing much smithing, but he is as good as they come. Russ

Really? He is the guy who lives like 3 blocks away, heck, ive been in his house before, my uncle was in his shop for some reason and said that he (Dave) had just finished up a bedding job and it was bad, had tons of air bubbles and the action had a kinda sloppy fit in the stock.

Richard Erbele out of LaMoure,ND is an excellent gunsmith as well plus super nice person. He's at 701 210 0096 or 701 883 5182.
Also check with Donovan Moran out of LaMoure at 701 269 4584

Best Wishes whatever you decide.

I can't remember the guys name. I talked with a couple of long ranger shooters that were using his rifles and they were happy with his work.

I thought someone said the gunsmith moved out of town to just north of Dickenson.

I think you'll be happy with Nate's work. The stuff I've seen is top notch.

Some of the lathe tooling he's designed is very clever.

The only Three I would use in ND are Steve Wald _ Mandan, Nate Dagley- Cnter, or Joel Ackerman- Dickinson.

I used to use Joel and have spent a lot of time in his shop back when I got started shooting matches. Super Nice guy and does Machine tool in his normal job at a machine shop by the new walmart.
Steve Wald does ALL of my work now. I took a chance on him early on when he was getting started and havnt looked back since. He has built me some amazing rifles over the years that just flat shoot. With his rifles I have set about 16 National Records in Mid Range Prone and won two National Trophies at Camp Perry. Also shot my way onto the US National team with Palma Rifle he built. Then took another of his to Australia to the World Championships. He has a 22BR reamer as well. Just did one up for me that I have not even had a chance to shoot yet.
He is unknown because he works by word of mouth and has a fulltime job besides Building rifles in his off time.
Nothing wrong with Nate's work by any means either. Sometimes he gets pretty deep in builds and the wait time can be longer than what your expecting. If I was you I would contact one of these guys NOW and start getting your name on the list. Good Smiths are busy for a reason.
Hope this helps.

Stan Ware is in SW MN. Had some work done by him some time back.

IMO, it doesn't get any better than Stan, and a nicer gentleman you'll never find.

I think he's pretty booked up at present, but he's worth the wait.

That would be Dave, he and i live about 2 or 3 miles north of Dickinson.

That sure doesn't sound like work Dave would do. He built Silhouette pistols for a lot of the Champion shooters when that disipline was hot. Maybe things have changed. He did most of my competition gun work back in the 80's and 90's and I won a lot of Championships with them. I do know that he has had some major health problems as of late, and maybe that is affecting things. I will have to find out what is up. Thanks. Russ

Some guys do bedding jobs in two steps. A heavy or thick pour of bedding compound than they finish up with a thinner bedding compound.
