It's a shame when after 5 years you make a trip to visit a few friends and go to a gun shop that was top shelf and walk in and it's not even close to a walmart . It makes me sad that for over 20 years the shop had anything you needed now only has one box of 6mm bullets and some black powder supplies not even a bottle of pyrodex no powder or bullets. At this rate they should close the doors and send post a sign to drive 50 miles and go to duncans.

I see this here at the local shops where I live. I also see almost nothing in stock that I am looking for at the on-line locations. I personally don't think it is the shop, but order fills from the manufacturers. Sadly I think the local shops could out of business from lack of something to sell.

Especially for reloading supplies. I wouldn't even consider stocking any reloading components in my shop right now. I couldn't compete on price and they'd just gather dust and tie up my money. What does move are handguns and AR15 items, if you've got enough money to stock everything anybody could ever want, 'cause everybody wants something different.

We used to have a nice one about an hour and a half north of us in Pa. called Collinsville discount. A real good guy behind the counter named Dave I believe. I really miss going there for supplies and an occasional rifle , scope or other. But now theres nothing close. Really sucks huh!

No it closed quite a few years ago. Very sad, I still have some 30 cal Sierras in 155 that have a $17 price tag on them. They're almost twice that now!

I have been buying bullets on line and from auctions and powder locally where ever I can find it. General gunsmithing parts on line.

I would rather pay a slight premium to a local store, but all they stock is powder and bullets for hunters and not bench rest buffs.

I try the local shops for convenience, even tho the closest shop has really unfriendly clerks!

And in the whole Sacramento area, there is only one gun smith that I know of, and they don't seem to understand accurate rifles. So, I build my own Savages and sent my VZ24 and barrel to a gunsmith in Oregon as I trusted him more than the local.

I really don't think it is fair to blame the internet for failing local businesses. I play with guns, off road and sport touring motorcycles and photography. I would rather buy my accessories for each locally for convenience and just plain support for local merchants. But, no one carries the stuff I need on a regular basis let alone the specialty stuff! And shops continue to fail.

Sacramento has a strong club with a world class shooting range with a lot of really active members. One would think some gun shops would cater to us? But, we are forced to search the internet for bullets and gun accessories. Fortunately, most popular powders are stocked in the range store, and I can get the other powder I use with an hours drive.

You can only blame yourselves,mayby not the few that are on this thread but most people you know. They go to antiamerican stores like wallmart and the like instead of supporting your local small family owend hardware stores that used to cater to there local custumers.I would rather go to the local hardware store and have to order it than go to (WALLMART) and get waited on by a non-american speaking towel head wearing thing that has no idea what your talking about and doesn't care! You are also right about availability,I work for a Large ammunitions maker and they are struggling to keep up with the orders.
Support your local small conservative businesses and stay out of liberal wallmarts.

I have to agree with Bozo on this one. And - I'm guilty. I don't go to Walmart. Period.
But I do order reloading supplies on-line. I have several excellant gun shops near me, but I look for and buy obscure things. They can order it for me but I can do that as well.
Thing is thier the same price and thier local. They just take longer is all.
I guess I'm just as bad as everyone else with the "instant gratification" thing.

I guess I am kind of lucky in that there is a really nice shop about 20 minutes from me that stocks a ton of bullets, brass, powder, and primers.(primers go quick though) If I want something they don't have, they will order it with no extra cost to me and have it within a week if it's available. They also have the largest selection of firearms around as well, I would say upwards of 500 at most times. The only issue is the staff are hit or miss knowledge wise. There are a few that really know they're stuff, and a few that are as clueless as can be.

There are a few other decent places around, but they never have jack for reloading supplies, only loaded ammo and little variety in that. One place has an "on-site gunsmith", though he is NEVER there.

But if I feel like driving an hour, there is Riley's. They have a pretty massive inventory of reloading supplies, loaded ammo, targets and firearms and a VERY knowledgeable staff. They are also a class-3 dealer, so they get in some rather interesting items as well.
