Gun safe question

Yes my gun safe is in the garage and i live in TN where the temp rises and falls just like TX and i have never had any problems. Just let the temp inside of safe go up and down with the weather and try and not open the door and leave it open when it is cold outside . If you gte a gun out when it is cold out just leave it out and let it come down to the present temp oil it up and put it back in the safe . I just keep some of those moisture grabbing beads in mine and it works fine .
I would not keep my safe in the garage. I have cutting torches, heavy pry tools, chain saws, comealongs, etc...
But I also have one entrance to garage, which is more like a shop, thru a heavy steel door, steel frame, extra heavy steel bolt. The gun room, in a separate part of house, has a solid wood door with steel reinforcement, and the guns and other stuff are in a very large heavy safe that won't fit thru the door without major modifications.
Point of this post is: pay attention to what tools are available to a thief once they manage to get in your home and how accessible the tools are. Can a thief back up to your garage and move the safe onto a liftgate truck and be gone in 5 minutes? Maybe 8 minutes if the safe is bolted to the floor.
I'm not an extremist. But what I have I worked hard for and some sorry scumbag can not have it. They have to get thru dogs and spend a lot of time trying to take it.

That is a good idea to let a gun warm up before you put it inside a gunsafe. Just make sure it's wiped down and free of moisture before it goes back inside. It IS a good idea to use a golden rod to help keep the temperature inside the safe constant. A low-wattage light bulb can serve much the same function. Temperature swings and the concomitant changes in humidity can and will contribute to rust formation.
You also want to have a good seal on the door. This will both keep out moisture and significantly enhance the safe's fire resistance. Check our safe buyers guide, http://www.6mmbr.com/gunsafes.html, for information on door seals.
While location in a garage is not ideal, at least keep the safe bolted down, and don't locate the safe near tools which could be used to move or cut into the safe. I talked to one LEO who had investigate hundreds of home break-ins. One of the few times he saw a safe defeated was when the home-owner left gas cutting torches right next to the safe. Sure enough, the bad guy used the torch to go in through the safe sides and was able to steal most of the guns inside.
