Gun room work bench ideas

Finally getting into a bigger house again and will have my gun room back. The room its going in is an office, no cabinets, just an empty room, sheet rocked, nothing special. This isnt a forever house, but 5 to 10 years..

What can I do for work benches, storage, and all thats not fixed to the walls or permanent? Everything pre built I see if EXPENSIVE... cant afford a $900 craftsman 6ft bench on wheels with drawers.. id need 4 of em at least...

Thinking ply wood, 2x4s would be cheapest... wife says that wont look nice though.

4x4 legs with 2x4 cross members stained and poly urathaned or painted what ever color she likes (it helps). Then go to local home building store and buy laminate ( formica) counter tops that were mistakes, usually half price.
Put shelving underneath and then use some sort of cheap bi-folding doors to cover up the shelves. Use wood screws or lags to assemble so they come apart easily when you are ready to move again.
Don't forget to lag into the wall for stability.

I’m in the same boat. Just closed on the new house yesterday, so I get to set up a new loading and gun room.

My old wooden bench would work ok and it looks fine, but I would have to disassemble and reassemble it to get it into my new room, so it’s going to be relegated to the garage where I will set it up for decapping, cleaning, trimming, and any of the dirtier operations.

I’m going to build my bench out of black iron pipe and fittings with a nice wood top. There will also be matching shelves and nice old wooden book shelf that I’ll use for additional storage.

I have plenty of room for my gun safes and it the room is already well lit with LED fixtures.

I’m super excited to get it going, but I have to finish the move first. Here is a pic of the style bench that I will be building. I’m using schedule 80 pipe and forged fittings, so it will be plenty heavy and strong. Not cheap, but I have a good hook up on parts from back in my oilfield days.

I snagged the pic off of internet of the style that I have in mind.

This is what I use as my as my main re-loading station of course with shelves and cabinets for storage around the room as well. The box is fastened to the wall with screws.

Go look thru the Goodwill store and other used furniture stores. I picked up an old steel office desk for $20 and a chair for $15.;)

Guess I over built. I use 2x12's and 4x4 posts, screwed together and covered with Masonite. Mount a 3" high back board and and surround the table with 1x4's, mounted 1/8" high to keep small parts from rolling off. Shelves are built underneath. I even got the lumber company to do most of the cutting. Built 4 of these in different sizes sizes, over the years and am quite happy with my set up. My benches have morphed into this based on my needs and experience.

2 x 12s- I love it. One thing about it, the heavier the better within reason- I need a bench like you got.

I have made quite a few (10 anyway) through the years and I always use 2x4s and 1/2 plywood for the top— I have used 2x4s on the top and plywood over that at times to give me more to bolt to. Usually make an 8’ long bench x 24 wide and cut a sheet of plywood in half for the top. Put it against the wall and just screw it to the wall so it doesn’t move around. Then when you move just take the screws out and patch the holes. Easy——I didn’t need to make mine fancy but if you stain it and put some polyurethane on you can make these look good. All pretty cheap to.
