Thanks Snert. Ok, so I need a LOT of ammo for my 243 and will tell the kids they may get their rifle back one day. Found a thread on how to pick ammo for that gun on this forum and it basically sounds like people said to just keep trying ammo until one really clicks...or simply reload. Midway has 60 options ranging from $16-55/20 rounds and 57-100 grain. Too many choices. I'll probably try a few Hornady and Winchester rounds.

You have Variables: bore condition from fouling, relatively short-term. Bore erosion/migration of the throat, relatively long-term, with empirical evidence re: bore life vs cartridge. you need Controls: effective cleaning regimen, cleaning between brands of cartridge, number of foulers required after cleaning, barrel temp, action screw torque, wind flags to allow firing in the same Condition, and on and on. You need Basic Knowledge: twist rate in your 243, and thus what bullet weight range is optimal. Advice: a break-bbl springer air gun will teach you all about you shooting flaws, on the cheap. Get one and Practice. Filter out low quality gun-related ad copy. Strive to simplify. Allow yourself to discover how easy it is to shoot well with good equipment
