Guidance Needed

Zero your comparator bushing out after installing it before you measure anything. Mine measures 2.007" before I zero it out.

I wouldn't throw anything out until you zero and measure properly. After zeroing I am getting in the 1.620" to 1.624" range.

As someone mentioned, there is an offset from the comparator to actual headspace. Using the comparator to headspace gauges showed a .009" difference (on my set) due to the radius cut on the bushing.

First thing is to find and know the length of your chamber . I also shoot the Rem 700 308 caliber . I ordered a Go Gage and some shims from Midway also a Reminder 700 firing pin assembly removal tool using the stripped bolt housing only , insert the Go Gage 1.630 your bolt will close with no resistance , then ad a piece of shim .001 to the bolt face and gage until the bolt closes with the slightest bit of resistance . Knowing that measurement let's say 1.632 with that measurement install the gage in your tool weather a comparator or a RCBS Precision Mic keeping that measurement for your zero headspace . You then can full length size your case to .001 or .002
Finding your bolt face to ogive is also with a stripped bolt , seating the bullet long and lower slightly until the sized case and bullet chambers but finding the ogive measurement is at the bolt lift , when the bullet is no longer putting pressure on your locking lugs your bolt won't have that click feel at the bolt lift . That's your ogive zero , from there you can jump , jam or touch the rifling . I have the Redding Competition Shellholders , they come with 5 different deck heights lower then the standard deck heights . 42.0 grains is the most use for Varget . Are you measuring OAL or base to ogive ?
