Guidance from Sako knowledge trust

Are receiver dimensions, bolt dia. and lugs of a 22x bolt face L461 the same as a ppc bolt AII action? Would like to know for future build project consideration.

Thanks for any input ---- Tooter

Joe tks for your response!

Probably should have added more points of interest ---- I have several Cooper 21s in 22X and a 22 PPC and only significant physical differences are the bolt face dia. RE: Sako question, aside from bolt face difference, will I need a different rear entry lug wrench and what about stock inletting differences for the receiver? I currently have an oh so sweet Sako L461 now barreled and chambered for 20VT. So sweet, that now considering a switch barrel AII/single shot winter build project based on a PPC action, ie: 20 PPC short, 22PPC and 6PPC.

Thanks again, Tooter

On the single shots, the only difference I am aware of is the bolt face. BTW, I am having a reamer made up & will be doing the same as you. I have one of the 6PPC BR models that I discovered had a major spot of pitting in the lead sometime after I bought it. Rifle looked so good that I never checked the bore - shame on me. Anyway, have a good bit of PPC stuff from years ago when I shot some NBRSA group, so going to make something out of it & love the 20's.

The little L-461 or Vixen action was the predecessor to the Al action. The difference being the bolt shroud. The Al action is the shortest of the Sako actions, with the All action being almost an inch longer. The All is a medium length action for the 243, 308 cartridges. The predecessor to the All was the L-579 action and they did not make any PPC's based on it. In the 1990's Sako made PPC's on the S491 action. You will need a different size rear entry wrench, as a matter of fact I had one custom made to take barrels off the little Vixen action.

Well, now I know ---- project budget on the rise!

Gents, thanks much for sharing the information. Good shooting ---- Tooter

If I understand what you are wanting to do, you are planning to build a PPC of some sort on an AII action? If that's it, you would probably do better to build something in the BR cartridge family, as that is the right size for the AII bolt (243, 308). My recommendation would be a 22BR or Dasher (depends on how much brass work you're willing to do) with either a 10 twist for 53 V-Max or a faster twist for the 22 heavies. Either way you would have a nice 700 yard varmint rifle IMO.

Sako's first PPC was on the L461 action for a very short time, than A1 etc, they chambered them in 6PPC and 22PPC.
Both sporter and varmint weight. Most had a factory adjustable triggers, mainly on the varmint weight, and where single shot, mostly the sporters where repeater.

If i was building one, i would consider the L579 A11 action as mentioned.
