GS Custom Bullets

Hello to all. I'm new to the forum. I sure appreciate this website and forum.

I am an old guy who has gotten back into shooting after a 10 years of absence. ( I pouted for a decade over the Canadian Gun Control bill that never did get passed.)

I am enjoying the new stuff on the market - especially the bullets. I have recently used GS Custom Bullet (mostly in 7mm on African plains game) and sure like them. I have been to their little factory in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. They have a cnc mill that buzzes out the bullets. Their website is fascinating. Does anyone have experience with these bullets in North America?

Thanks again for the great forum,
Brian

I have used several different GS bullets includig .243, .257, .308, and .338.
The bullets are really top of the line and the service is top notch. Gina is always a pleasure to communicate with and her father (Gerard) was always helpful in initial load developement. Wish these folks were here in the USA.
My first bull Elk was taken with a 100gr. HV bullet from my .257 Weatherby. A one-shot kill.

100 grs ! Those little GS bullets seem to work like big bullets. I'll bet that your velocity with 257wbym is awesome.
I have recovered some 120 gr. 7mm GS bullets from game and usually they are picture perfect. Last I heard, Gina, or maybe her sister has married an American fellow and that there may result in a better supply for us in N. America in the future. (yikes- I hope I have that right!) We have a GS Custom Bullet agent here in western Canada, Corlane Sport, Dawson Creek. Brian

As in "picture perfect. I could reload them and shoot them again" or "picture Perfect....they opened up into a perfect mushroom".

I do not have the .257 anymore but I remember my chronographed velocity was right at the 3750fps mark. I used RL22, but I cannot remember the dosage. It was very accurate and quite deadly!!

Hello Blue-Eyed Bear, That's fast! But I can believe it. As explained on his site, the design of the bullet enables the higher initial velocity and the high BC keeps it going. Thanks for the tip on RL22. I will be working on loads for 120 gr HV GS Custom Bullets in 7-08 and 69 gr HV in .243 when it warms up a bit. I will report back if anything real interesting occurs in the process.

Brian,
Those are really impressive numbers I sent you from Quickload. The barrel time is great, MV is really good and pressure should not be a problem with that load.
As far as the ballistics; the 7-08 is not a long range gun. But, as you can see the numbers really look good with that load out to 500 yards or better.

Barry

Blue-eyed bear, Yes. Those are very impressive number to me. This 7-08 will be a nice little "user-friendly" rifle.
350 yds. is far enough right now, for me . Thanks again for your help. Brian

I am shooting the 140 gr 7mm bullet in my .280 rem now. I shot 10 rounds just kind of checking pressures then started to test some groups at different seating depths like they recommend. The first group was .25", and the next 2 groups were under .5" but larger than the 1st. These are 3 shot groups at 100 since it is a hunting rifle. That was a few weeks ago so I took that 1st load hunting. I've only killed one deer so far and it was a head shot.
I'm going to mess with it some more soon but I really like them so far.

Arthurj. hello again. I corresponded with Gerrard a GS Custom bullets recently. He said that he was working on a new bullet design that would not need to be seated so deeply. He is a very interesting guy. Your 280 is the real deal. Very nice cartridge. Very popular on plains game in Africa. They call it the 7x61.(It is close to the 280) Lots of power but still very nice to shoot.
