Group size

Small question here guys, what would be a decent group size to shoot at 1000 yds??? I`m shooting an XP100 pistol in 6.5-284 with 140 A-max`s at 2650 fps..Went to Wyoming last week and did some 500-1000 yd shooting and I was quit pleased with the results...Thanks...

That's a tough question to answer. A 'decent' group size will depend on the type of rifle, caliber, rests, and conditions. A Benchrest rifle in good conditions can shoot under 1/4 MOA 5-shot groups while the same rifle in snotty conditions might group no better than 20 inches, and the shooter may be tickled pink to do that good.

Yep, tough to say. Also depends on how many in the group. A Benchrest LG group of 5 will differ a bit from an F-Class group of 20.

I would say if you are shooting 10 shot groups and holding MOA, well at 1k then you are doing really well.

Guess I should have gave a little more info,,it was 5 shot groups,,shot from a good rest..Had a lot of fun...One day we had about 10-15 mph cross wind, from left to right,,and the next day we had wind from about 5 oclock to 11 oclock,,bout 10 mph..I did manage to get 3 groups that was about 3/4 MOA,but most averaged anywhere from 10-15 inches at 1000..Had one that was 1 1/2 inch by 3 1/2 inch at 500..Best part was the fellow that allowed us to shoot on his property was an X benchrest shooter and he had concrete benches set up,with steel plates and target stands from 100 all the way to 1000...Had a great time....

The IBS record for 1000 yard LG 5-shot group is held my Tom Sarver and is 1.1XX inches...I belive that the the HV 10-shot records is somewhere around 3.3-3.5' now..
