Groundhog season is now open

Well, my rock chuck shooting has been going on since moving here in 1975, but even at that, my total cannot be anywhere near hogpatrol's; amazing.

Here's a few from last season near the house during a morning walkabout with my Cooper M38 Phoenix in 221FB.

If this blasted rain and wind would subside, we'd all be able to get out and do our thing, but I see today that we're in for another full week of this crap. Can't complain too much though.....right at the end of February, we got a dump of three FEET of snow. It lasted a full month, and as a result, our chucks are taking their time coming out to play.....but sooooon. :)

You Eastern guys hold on, as there's two more dang Pacific storms lining up for us. We'll be sending them your way soon also. Get your chucking in while you can. :D

Warm weather on the horizon and pest removal will resume soon.

This wily old veteran has been eluding my sights for going on two seasons. The home owner sees him almost every day but I've set up on him numerous times and he never shows. I think he has some sort of GPS tracking device on my truck and knows when I'm there. Therefore, I have enlisted technology, a wireless camera set up near his holes, to track his feeding times. Had pics two days in a row and then nothing the third day.
This is getting personal.

Try showing up in a different vehicle :p

LOL. What time of day did you shoot him? I noticed on the trail cam pics he came out later in the day. He wasn't an early riser it looked like. Now he won't be getting up at all..

My brother lives a quarter mile away and was in the general vicinity set up on another. He too gets the pics on his phone and whacked him around 2:30. Camera is now set up on another one that keeps giving us the slip. He's right close to a long gravel driveway and as soon as he hears a vehicle he's down the hole. May have to double team this guy.:D

Looks like the grass is getting tall already in PA. Early first cut this year?

Actually with all the rain, at least in my area, they just cut this week. Was driving back to a field and had one run across the lane from an uncut field in to the woods and then driving back out again. Said to myself, he's not going to do that a third time. I set up a 100 yards up the lane and waited for him. Fifteen minutes later I saw a nose and eyeball peeking out from the weeds. Crosshairs on the middle of the head, a good squeeze and it was strike three, you're out. Tally for the evening was four.

Haven't even been this year. Have seen them dead on the road. Once I take care of a few issues maybe I'll get to go. This hot weather sucks ... Nice shooting by th way..
