Groundhog day

I heard some screeching outside and found my dogs heading and heeling a plump groundhog

Howdy !

EVERY day... is groundhog day !

We had a husky that would latch onto the critters behind the head, then bite down all along the spine; going down it like a sewing machine. There were some sound effects that accompanied all that.

If you kicked the dead carcass, the dog saw movement... and interpreted that as "not dead ".
She'd then repeat the treatment.

Had a Jack, well actually a Parsons, Russell and if he saw one it was dead! Of course the same went for rabbits, Squirrels, cats, Chipmunks well you get the picture.

Many years ago when I had a dog, a beagle, and we lived in a very rural area, he would routinely bring one home clutched between his teeth. Granted most of them were pups or yearlings but it still was quite a feat for a beagle.

I was born on ground hog day! Always wondered why dogs sniff me out more than other people.
