Grizzly 1007 mill drill

The G1007 has been discontinued, but it is essentially the same as many other mills based on the same Chinese design. The JET JMD-15 is one of them that is still available. I have the JET and it is OK for most gunsmithing tasks, like pinning lugs or punching out scope base holes, etc. It has no tramming adjustments so if you want it true, you have to shim the column. Pain in the ass, but once trued, it ain't too bad.

Well I don’t know what you consider “ serious “ work, but for pinning lugs, stock work, installing extractors, and side bolt releases, it works very well!
ive got a jmd 15 or mabie 18-- same as grizz 1006 or 1007 no power table feed. ive had it a long time and i wouldnt pay much for one now --Anyway why do you want to know about the 1007? it sounds like you have one and are happy with it.

I personally do not, I used Gordy Gritters last week and kinda like how it was, small but it would do everything I needed it to. I would love to have a bigger machine but in this shop I don’t have the room for one.

oic-- one other thing to be aware of is when you move the head you lose your zero unlike a knee mill. this is a real poa to me at times. you may be able to set it up so you dont have to move the head for your use. anyway this model can work like gene poole says. the G0705 looks similar-i just could not spend 1800 on one. to me the good thing about these round column mill drills is they will teach you why you want something better, but you can make one work for lite duty stuff if you want to put up with it. id like to go to the Gordie school one of these days.

I have an identical other than Taiwanese version and it is a very nice machine. In a pinch, it will do most mill jobs slowly. I use it mostly as a drill press since I have a bridgeport.

there you go--mine is chinese i believe. i do little projects but for now the brass(bronze?) nuts for the leadscrews came loose so i have to secure them someway-- of coarse after tearing it apart. im saving up for the bridgeport and im converting the milldrill to inlet stocks.

I sometimes cut a dovetail in large toolholders (1.5" square for example), add a threaded rod for height adjustment, and convert them to BXA or CXA direct mount. The steel is pretty tough. The first one I did was on the mill drill. took some patience. --Jerry
