Greg Rodriguez

Did anyone else see the news that Greg Rodriguez had been shot to death in Wyoming the other night?
Saw it this morning on the net, sure hope it is not true. His family will be missing him dearly!

Yes, it's definetely true. Heard about it yesterday. What a shame, I've read and enjoyed many articles in shooting times by him. Worst part is that he has two young kids.

Can't be too careful when dealing with a jealous husband. Guess he thought cape buffs were the most dangerous.

Yup. Drinking with another fellas wife isn't very smart.
He happened to be on a business trip, and stopped to visit them. I believe jealousy would be the correct term to use.

Supposedly they were having a glass of wine together...

HELENA, Mont. - A man shot and killed Greg Rodriguez, host of the Sportsman Channel show "A Rifleman's Journal," in an apparent jealous rage while the TV personality was visiting the shooter's wife, police said Friday.
Wayne Bengston, 41, then beat his wife, took his 2-year-old son to a relative's house and drove to his home and killed himself, Whitefish Police Chief Bill Dial said.
Rodriguez and the woman, who works for a local firearms manufacturer, met at a trade show and struck up a casual relationship that police do not believe was romantic, Dial said.
Bengston's wife told police that Rodriguez was in town on business and visiting her at her mother's house in Whitefish when her husband showed up Thursday at about 10:30 p.m.
She and Rodriguez were sitting at the kitchen table, talking over a glass of wine, when Bengston entered the house and shot Rodriguez, Dial said.
"I think it was a jealous husband, but this is all conjecture," Dial said.
"A Rifleman's Journal" tracked Rodriguez's hunting travels to exotic locations, according to a Sportsman Channel description. He had a wife and two children, it says.
Rodriguez was a mortgage banker before founding Global Adventure Outfitters, and he had hunted in 21 countries, the company's website says. He was an editor at Shooting Times Magazine and a contributing editor at Petersen's Hunting, Guns & Ammo and Dangerous Game.

How about a little respect for the families affected by this tragedy? There are many suffering from this, and some of you speculate worse than ladies under the hair dryer hood at the local salon.

Very true. That needed to be said.

My heart goes out to both families and the hopes that they can get past this.It will take alot of prayers to comfort the people affected by such a tradgedy.

effendude, please pass along your definition of "speculation." I see where no one has showed any disrespect. I, for one, have followed Greg's contributions to Shooting Times for as long as he has been writing for them. Without a doubt, he will be missed.

A little sensitive? Speculation is exactly what you and others did. It is a another word for gossip. Within 24 hours of the tragedy, everyone "knows" Greg was shot by a jealous husband under questionable circumstances. Your comment to watch out for jealous husbands being more dangerous than cape buffalo was in poor taste. What if Greg was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time? Both victims were at the woman's mother's house which must be the ideal place to have an affair. The news report stated that the authorities believe there was no romance involved between Greg and the woman. If he was having a romantic relationship with the woman, does that mean they both deserved to die?

It is not my place to defend Greg, but there are three children left without a parent after this tragedy. The children and other family members left behind deserve some respect.

Just finished reading the other posts. A couple comments may not have been "politically correct", that being said I don't think any posts demonstrated a lack of respect for the deceased or their family members.

I unfortunately know from first hand experience that losing a family member or loved one as a result of violence is traumatic, with the children suffering the most. The death of a loved one is horrific; knowing that they died needlessly the result of a senseless act of violence only exacerbates the pain.

Common sense with the fact that the man subsequently beat his wife after the shooting would underscore the conclusion that jealousy (justified or not) was at least partially responsible for the killing. None of the posts focused on the issue of an extramarital affair and "speculating" that it could have been the motivating factor is not gossip. Gossip is typically unfounded and often times irrational assumptions; in the case at bar, the obvious facts would have most deducting this scenario as the likely motivator.

No one suggested that anyone deserved to die. Two families have been destroyed as a result of the tragedy and they should all be in our prayers. Even if there was an ongoing relationship, violence of any kind cannot be justified. In addition to two families being destroyed, the end result will be gun ownership once again being blamed for the loss of life.
