What a nice time I had with my girls. Of course I missed the first 2 but redeemed myself on the next three. Last day of the small game season here in Ct. So after that I had just enough time to clean up my girls and clean 3 rabbits then off to work. So now we can have rabbit stew on Sunday with the gang in the garage always a good time and plenty of stories. I should also mention that it’s always a good day when my grandfather is with me in spirit. That’s his side bye side 20ga that I restored.
Best to all!!!

Now that right there is some good all American stuff! I would much rather soon see a picture like this than I would of some outrageously big elk or deer. I don’t hunt bunnies anymore but I still have a beagle and probably always will. Thank you for sharing!

Nice, very nice.

Reminds me of those good old day in the 50's and early 60's. My Dad was a very competent small game hunter, and my mom was a great wild game cook. Rabbits, pheasant, squirrel, and deer meat were commonly on the menu in season. I sure do miss those days when life was a lot simpler.

And that shotgun is living the life it deserves too. It sure has nice wood. Good job.
Love 'your girls', got two girl Basset Hounds myself, but mom won't let me take them hunting. But they do provide us with their "morning group howl" every morning. Matter of fact, as I type this, they're at it right now!

i have had the privilege of owning 3 bassets. Alot of work but they are my favorite dog. Nice pair. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks too all for the kind words. I love my girls and I’m constantly realizing how many people in my area don’t realize that they’re hunting dogs. So for the last ten years or so I’ve made it my focus to get all the kids I can find out in the field with them. The reactions have been nothing short of amazing from the parents as well as the kids. I’ve tried to get 8-10 new kids a year out with me for the day. Bare with me but these kids are great!!
It took me three years to get one boy to join me. He was very excited to go so we are walking out with the dogs. I asked him where his gun was? He said in the truck so I asked why? His answer was because I don’t want to shoot one of your dogs. So I convinced him to get it and he stayed with me for the day and did shoot his first rabbit. Then his father told him it was time to leave so they could go get in there deer stand for the evening. His response was priceless. Dad Mr Brown can drop me off on his way home I’ll see you tonight. Ok as far as my trusty old side bye side. It was my grandfather’s gun which was passed to me. The receiver reads Ward’s Western Field Grade. I did the gun over color case hardened it blued the barrels Briley put chokes in it for me and I did the stock so it would fit me correctly. 90% of my hunting is done with my grandfather right with me. It makes my days in the fields that much better. Because I grew up on a naval base in Yokosuka Japan and didn’t get to spend much time with him but we’re making up for C724F10F-63EA-4114-87F1-053070B14249.jpegthat now.

Fantastic job "Mr. Brown " !

Thats the nicest Monkey Wards side by side I have EVER seen! It is beautiful! WELL DONE!

I always wished I could get kids involved when I hunted rabbits. I had one guy near my age who took it on and hunted hard a few years, but he quit. My dog got old, I couldn't hunt and keep a job and four kids too, so I had to cut back. Rabbit hunting went by the wayside. I so wish I could get back into it, but now live in an area where all the rabbits are gone due to housing. I rarely see one anymore.

I would happily tag along and help guide someday with ya! But I think my legs are not up to it anymore. Not yet 60 and I am weak as a kitten sometimes.

Beautiful dogs. Just perfect. They remind me of my Snert. She was a gem.
